At the end of the day, once you know how recruitment agencies and agents work .... and HOW they make their money and what makes them tick, they are a piece of cake to handle.

I get about 10-20 calls off them every day and maybe 5% of any calls i get actually come to something, but thats just the way it goes.

Personally - i NEVER expect to be given any time or respect from them unless the person who they are recruiting FOR shows an interest in you.... when they do you are suddenly their best friend and will hound you forever trying to get you into that job.

Just play the game with them and everyone gets what they want. Expecting people in that kind of interest to be 'moral' or 'doing the right thing' (in your eyes) is asking to be let down ... you'll put yourself into an early grave that way.

Its all a game. Just play it that way.

You'd enjoy seeing thousands of people being put out of work?

Hardly the stuff dreams are made of...

no, but as a former inmate of a call centre I'd enjoy watching the place burn if they laid everyone off.

it DOES work, it's just that the majority of people don't know their rights and what they can do when it goes wrong.

Can you say hand on heart that you'd know what to do, where to go, and what legislation is relevant if your employer started mucking you about?

Stop talking out of your ringpiece.

    You fucking idiot.

CAB and other organizations are there to provide advice and help, not to single handedly fight employers on behalf of their former workers. We need them because we aren't a nation of solicitors who know the law inside out.

Take a recent example my girlfriend dealt with - a lady came in to see her who had just been made redundant. She was 8 months pregnant, and due to go on maternity leave. Her employer had finished her, and then quietly taken someone else on to fill her place (highly illegal).

My girlfriend helped this woman out by clarifying what her rights were, what she could do next, and where she could get help.

This woman has just won a claim for sexual discrimination against her former employer, and CAB didn't sort it for her, they just showed her it was wrong and how she could/should fight it.

That person knew nothing about her rights - because she didn't have to. I bet she knows a lot more now.

You're confusing the effectiveness of employment law with actually understanding it. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that the system doesn't work.

If the law didn't work, citizens advice and charities/agencies like it wouldn't be able to do jack shit, and neither would anyone else when their employer screws them over.
