I'm well aware as it stands that black athletes seem to piss all over white athletes, in scientific tests it has been proven that white scandinavians carry the same characteristics that make west africans so good at endurance running... Which shows that whites can share these characteristics..

To my knowledge there is no conclusive genetic evidence that can suggest that blacks are designed for sports (And there has been years of research put into proving this)... instead most people tend to blame it on ancestry and not race...

There may be no genetic evidence but there is sporting evidence.

Spence, I'm not argueing with the fact that blacks hold all the top running spots, my arguement was that this wasn't genetic - it was down to ancestry - their past... Scandinavians share the same characteristics that make blacks great runners (which is why they hold the best cross country skiing positions)... So to blame black athletic success on genetics seem silly... it makes more sense to blame it on conditioning and if it is years of conditioning then theres no reason that whites wouldn't make great runners.

People living under certain conditions develop characteristics that are suited to the conditions... these are usually physical but can also be mental. We adapt to our surroundings. Its the 'niche' theory. Everything in nature has a niche otherwise it is irrelevant... we are no different.

yeah, it is. and they are stronger etc. Just due to evolution, and their ancestory.

I am not blaming them for running fast, I just see no evidence in a sporting environment of great Scandinavian athletics.

My views may change after the Olympics where I think Sweden will shock everyone with how many medals they win.

Joe i think science and everyone on the board will contradict you on that. You can't condition hundreds of generations you idiot. External factors can condition one generation at a time, as each generation is conditioned, the body learns what traits it needs for survival, and so starts to concentrate on developing those traits. If black people needed physical prowess in the past, then over the course hundreds of years the geneology will have adapted to aid this.

Are you trying to suggest that black people are black because of conditioning? They're black because they (generally) eminate from hotter climes, so the skin needs more pigmentation to protect it from the sun. Is this conditioning? I would say that it's genetic, again.

Science will prove me wrong? Noakes, Bouchard, Saltin an Kidd would all contradict you (I was sad enough to look up the leading authorities on african/non-african genetic comparissons )...

The most convincing counter-arguement to what I'm putting forward is that blacks have a higher concerntration of IIa cells in their muscular build up... which can be blamed for causing faster running times over short periods of time... this could be down to genetics, however this is complete speculation and could just as easily be a result of lifestyle.

Basically there are a whole host of reasons blacks hold the top spots (ancestry, diet, training, etc.) but there is NO conclusive evidence to suggest that blacks are geneticaly faster than us.

The most plausable theory I came across was by Kidd, after taking genetic samples of tribes and comparing them to the rest of the world - there was a far more varied collection of DNA... He put this down to man evolving from western africa, so many african runners will be very fast and many african runners will be very slow... this kind of contradicts my intial stance... but it doesn't mean that black men are faster - just there is a larger genetic variety.

And as for my ancestry arguement, I was putting this forwrda to highlight the fact, it doesn't mean blacks are faster runners - as we have the same ability to develop these characteristics...

oh my, someone did a study on it and got it published... it must be true then...

what you're are saying is in part true tho... people of african origin are not all genetically better than us in terms of having a predisposition to be better runners than european white people, but running is one of their races stronger characteristics...

those who could run faster and had good stamina were less likely to survive as they could hunt and avoid predators better...

or a different evolution?
