people did though mate, i'm guessing like most of us though your probably not old enough to remember.

Burmah Oil Co. v Lord Advocate 1965

the british government had ordered the destruction of oil depots, comp. was sought for this.

you're on about compensation, compensation is the same for an individual or a company.. in the eyes of the law they are one and the same.

:dunce: , i'm a bit slow today! fair enough if they dont wan't to attend the ceremony, that's their choice but for that reason about compensation is pathetic.

We're slowly turning into america, it's a joke, I bet these people will be the first people to stand up and complain about how bad the schools/nhs or whatever are, but what do you expect living in a country full of money grabbers?

Im a bit confused with what your getting at

    Putting that to one side

Why should the tax payer compensate people for a terrorist act that they had absolutely no control over?

Is having £200k going to make you going to forget what happened to your loved one?

Obviously there are right situtations for it.....e.g. if a mother is left with 3 kids as their dad was killed

But Im not convinced that all the applications are situations like that

what i was trying to highlight was that compensation is not a new thing, people have been claiming comp for 100's of years. alot of claims are spurious and fail. however back to the original point many people did try and bring various comp claims after wwII.

we are just better informed about stuff like this now thanks to mass media.

no i don't, i was simply playing devils advocate.

however, i am unsure that in practice you would actually be able to draw distinctions between the deaths of people who died from the same event though. just because someone has children their life is worth more? i don't buy that.

Surley most people have their own life insurance/assurance nowadays? every motrage, credit card and loaf of bread you buy you're encouraged to get some kind of protection for it...

    Thats not what Im saying

If a mother is left with 3 kids and cant work because of looking after them then they are more entitled to this money

Someone who was walking into a tube station just as people were escaping from a blown up tube (as my sister was) have no right to anything imo

Next it'll be the emergency services wanting to make claims for 'stress at work'

"oooo i saw some blood - i ain't slept since"

The western world's gone soft... too much time at the top of the hill... give it 50-100 years once the east have all the money and we're overrun with whole charver colonies....

    it's the future

i saw this on the news last night, and i was disgusted!

A woman who lost both legs recieved £110,000, yet a woman whos's husband had died is going to recieved £5,500.

ffs ppl who have minor car accidents recieve roundabout £2-3k. how can they value someones life @ £5,500
