Migrationwatch revolve their entire anti-immigratation stance around current and forecasted immigration figures, but there are huge cracks in this argument. Immigration flows into Britain did indeed rise from 46,800 in 1997 to 151,000 by 2003 (Office for National Statistics), but this is by no means a reliable base to build anti-immigration policy on.

Migrationwatch focus on a "projection" generated by the government for accounting purposes, they then form the prediction that if net migration continues at the same level for the next 30 years as it has for the past 3 years by 2035 it could be at 5 million.

This logic is fundamentally flawed and is by no means submisable as a reliable prediction, if the same extrapolation had been applied 30 years ago it couldn’t forecast Britain’s current immigration statistics.

In the 1970's Britain didn't experience the current influx of immigrants, instead we exported migrants to the tune of 170,000 a year… migration was greater than immigration.

Similar government actuarial 30 year projections for 2015 would have shown a decline in Britain’s population instead of a 5 million rise. There is no guarantee that the net migration inflow into Britain in the past few years will continue at the same levels.... It is pure fabrication and half baked right wing anti-immigration gibberings.

Migrationwatch UK is a conservative knee jerk reaction to nebulous immigration figures, their policies revolve around the fear of a large influx of immigrants draining Britain’s resources and crippling the economy.

Such fears need to be based on a real threat, Migrationwatch do not have any factual base.

The current tack on which Migrationwatch are sailing is very much a pantomime. They frequently tell us that if immigration is to rise at the current rate it will cripple our economy, yet the immigrant demographic is one of the smallest in our country, with a population of 58.8 million and about 49,405 asylum applications in 2003 it becomes obvious when contrasted with 621,469 births in the same year that asylum seekers are by no means a threat to Britain.

In 2003 net fixed settlement was at 139,675 this included granted asylum which was at 31,510. These statistics paint the real immigration scenario and discredit Migrationwatch's current thrust.

When you couple this information with my previous point; Today’s immigration trends by no means mirror tomorrow’s immigration trends (this argument was supported with detailed statistics in the post prior to this). Migrationwatch are left with no basis from which to oppose immigration. There is little point me discrediting individual policies as I have just discredited their raison d'etre.
