Yoji Biomehanika. Not a typical Japanese name, but then when you see Yoji you will realize that he is not a typical Japanese DJ. He is in every sense of the word an extrovert in a very strongly conforming society. His hairstyle, dress sense, followers, music style are very unique to Yoji. Referred to as the Japanese NRG Master and the incarnation of Hard NRG, Yoji thrills his fanatical fans known as "Hanikers" up and down this land not usually noted for producing NRG music. These "Hanikers" are fanatical for various reasons: They can be found dressed like him in futuristic outfits sporting similar hair creations, imitating his movements behind the decks and when he appears they mob the stage, not to mention following him wherever his energetic show takes him.

For those who have never seen Yoji play, I shall explain. This Japanese DJ sporting an orange mohican hails from Osaka in the Kinki district of Japan (nothing sordid, only an area name). He spins fast, nrg trance and hard house together into a mix of happy, uplifting energetic mayhem. He wrestles with banging beats pushing his tunes to the limit, before sending shivers down your spine as he drops in an uplifting hard trance riff to make the crowd melt. He plays with the crowd bringing them up and down the whole way through his performance. As his shows hit fever pitch level he can be found lifting his hands to the heavens like a god addressing his followers, ie the God of Energy.

He currently holds three regular residencies at high-powered parties in Japan: Viva @ Liquid Rooms (Tokyo), Ultra Pumpin @ Bayside Jenny (Osaka), Fabtastica @ Mago (Nagoya), and is also frequently invited as a guest to appear at other parties. His residencies frequently play host to visiting DJs and live acts alike. In the past Chris C, Max of Alien Trax, Choci, Karim, RR Firece and Lab 4 have all appeared at these parties as his guests.

When you experience his performance involving constant chopping and changing between tunes you will find it hard to believe that not long ago he was in fact a house DJ. His performances incorporate many different styles of trance and energy from Britain and Europe, but he also includes much of his own work in his sets too. Since his recording career began in the mid nineties he has produced and remixed many tracks for domestic and international release. A full discography can be found here.

His international portfolio of work is increasing in size constantly and since the establishment of his own label Hellhouse, he has received many requests and offers to write and remix from artists at home and abroad. His debut single on this new label called "Go Mad" makes full use of the hoover and a distinctive go mad lyric. It may already be well known to many people as it was licensed to DP Recordings and released with a Max Alien Trax mix on the flip side. His second Hellhouse release "Seduction" is a beautiful uplifting hard trance piece due for UK release in May on Mohawk records with a Chris C mix on the flip side and has received wide spread praise due to its gracefulness.

His most recent domestic only remix work includes pieces on DJ19`s 19 Box label called Groove Me, on Tokyo Underground Limited Recordings called Philosophy of Religion by Nish and also music for Sega used in their Dreamcast game Virtual On and arcade game Touring Car Championship 2.

While on the international remix front his most recent work includes a mix of Chris C`s Fool's Gold and Fire on the Moon on Mohawk and Aztec respectfully, and also Concept of Love by Lab 4 on One Inch Records.

He is clearly someone who enjoys his work and producing mixes for his avid followers as his loyal Hanikers will be able to tell you, because they will undoubtedly have a collection of CD "presents" distributed regularly at his shows. Other CD mix work is available too, however only in Japan. A series of mix CDs is on the cards for the future and perhaps they will be released outside of Japan.

Yoji and his technicolor energy show is coming to Britain this spring and will be appearing alongside Lab 4 at a live show in London as well as other dates.
