Yeah just let anyone into my flat thanks

Just noticed today that there was a sticker on the kettle in my flat saying it had been electrically tested on 11/03/08

I casually thought to myself "bit paranoid of nass to think that the kettle's going to set on fire" and went about my day, thinking he'd "networked" an electrician and got him to do it.

I questioned him about this before and he doesn't know anything about it, so we both checked again and there was one on the toaster aswell, which we only got when we moved in.

So it appears that the letting agency has took it upon themselves to give the key to some random fucking tradesman and told them to let themselves into my flat.

I've already told them (specifically stated) that I don't want random plumbers/joiners/builders coming into my flat so they can look through my boxer shorts/have a mix/sniff my ketamine etc

I am not sure that I can quite express how pissed off I am without them refusing to speak to me again, so I'm going to have to do a bit research and bombard them with legal facts. Anyone know any? Is this illegal? Can I get any free stuff?

I want them in the dock for this, fucking burglars.

Pretty sure they have to do it by law or if something goes wrong and ends up destroying your house they can prove its been tested or something like that. Im sure if you said they can only do it when someone else is present that they would have to abide to it though?

My GF had the same issue the other month with her flat down at Uni. She was away in New York over one weekend with her course & came back to find her flat door wide open, she initialy thought she'd been done over but relised her laptop & jewlery were all sitting blatant on her desk. She questioned her flat mates all of whom were also away that weekend. Later she found out that the Letting Agency had conducted minor electrical repairs to one of her lights & accidently left he door open when they left, they left no note/letter to say they'd been, no correspondence & no arrangement that allowed work to be carried out while she was away.
I told her to say her Mac had been taken but she's too honest, I would have rinsed the fuckers.

It cant be legal? surely with no arrangement between you or the property agency.

Usually they have to give you a certain notice period, either 24 or 48 hours. It will say in your tenancy agreement.

They arent allowed in unnanounced, except in an emergency.

It says that they're allowed upto 3 days after giving valid written notice, but we haven't recieved any written notice and if they say they did, they can't prove it.

If you didnt want me to get the place checked out then you should never have issued me with a key...

The acidic purpose bought lighter has been found too, in Katie's living room...it had to be disposed of though as it failed to display the correct sticker.

When I lived in a shared flat at around the time they were showing people round they used to bring hoardes of people into our flat, sometimes accompanied by thier parents, often without warning. I thank my lucky stars they never walked in on a mammoth bender

When i was in rented accom whilst i sold my old flat / purchase of new house went through the letting agency would give me a few days notice in writing for them comming out to do any routine work but if i couldnt be in and knocked them back three times they said they had every right to just let themselves in and do the work the next time whether i was in or not.

Also when it came time to move out i had to put the usual months notice in and during that month they would have everyone that had ever been interested in a flat including their entire familys round to view it at every given opportunity !!!

The landlord of a few mates who were living in Leeds while they were at Uni used to turn up in the middle of the night to do repairs/painting/decorating. He was male and they were all female. He once burst into the living room at 3am when they were all sat in their pj's having a girly night in just to paint the wall in the living room!! Fucking creep. Or genius. Whichever way you look at it.
