    wireless networks

Is it possible to have a wireless network between two houses that are about 40 meters apart?

hhmm... maybe - you'd need a really good router and have it as high as possible (i.e. the top floor/loft) internal walls are ok - external ones are the problem

    Totally possible.

It depends on how good the antennas are at each end.

With one of my laptops I can pick up our signal from work which is about 60 meters away from my flat. The other one can't even see the work network nevermind connect to it.

To maxamise the radius of a wireless router put it in the apex of your roof as that means that the signal does not have to pass through walls to get to anywhere in your house or outside.

i've got that one, if it's the model with the 128bit encryption, been reasonably trouble free
