wireless networking problem...again

    wireless networking problem...again

    my dads mat has just got some wirless gear.

    a btvoyager 2200 adsl router
    belkin network card for laptop
    belkin wireless usb device for pc

    ive got the laptop one working fine, jsut the desktop pc wont have any of it

    its got a signal bt says it cant configure the network.

    theres no option to enter the wep key either

    trance_fan seems like the boyo for this job

    From my experience theres always a minor setting somewhere which ya overlook.

    Check the channel number is the same and that you've got the right network name in.

    And it should be set to infrastructure rather than ad hoc as the connection is going through ya router.

    Also windows by default tries to configure the network settings and with some wireless adapters they provide their own config software. You might have to disable the windows software.

    Just a couple of things which have caused me probs in the past.....

    What version of windows is running on the desktop PC?

    I ask because I had a similar problem a few days ago, I was setting up WPA across a wireless network and I couldn't enter the WPA key on one of the three machines... turns out that WPA is only supported with XP SP2 or later. You can get support for it in earlier versions of windows, but this usually involves using the third party client software you get with the wireless device.

    its xp pro but not sure which service pack its got on it.
