Windows XP64 I have a feeling I should just pm this to juski...... but.... what's the craic with this windows XP64? Getting a new comp with a 64 bit athlon processor, and I found that you can download free versions of 64bit windows. Will it make my computer any faster? Will games work on it? Anyone tried it? Worth a shot? Thanking you!
yeah, they're limited to 365 days from registration, i think.... been doin a bit of reading in the meatime, apparently it runs 32bit games fractionally slower, and a couple of 64 bit applications, that i'll probably almost never end up using, stupidly fast. well, anyways, cheers for your advice mate, suppose i'll stick with xp for a while!
If you have a 64bit processor then you DO want to run a 64bit OS, regardless. If it be XP 64 or Linux, you still gotta run one, else no point having 64bit processor. Basically tho in the case of Windows, not a lot of support for it yet, but its getting there. More and more apps will take advantage of it soon. Nothing will run slower, some stuff will run quicker...win-win
cheers sleepy! right, i've ordered it, i'm going to try it and see how it goes - like you said, support seems to be improving for it, so i'll see if i can find drivers and stuff. will let you know if its any good!
no good if u wanna run all latest n greatest games nah! altho u can get the likes of Quake 3 for it, which run superb! not a gaming OS by a long shot (yet) but a REAL OS
lol, seein as its a REAL os and all.... can you use office/photoshop/winamp on it? can you have windows on the same computer with it, for gaming? i have a feeling i'm making work for myself here!
just been havin a quick look on the gentoo website..... sounds like you seriously need to know programming to get the most out of it..... i might just stick with XP home
if u want xp on same machine u can dual boot yeah, then jus drop into xp for games. when ur in linux tho u can use office/photoshop/macromedia styff etc...either using VMWARE (install a "virtual" xp machine) or use a product called crossover office which is EXCELLENT!
I sometimes get the feeling, I think its just a linux 'thing', i have used it myself, and various other OS'.
