Windows Product Activation Got a problem... When I go to log in to Windows it tells me that my copy of Windows must be activated as the 30 days has ran out... Anyway, the strange thing this has only recently started and my copy has been happily activated for ages. Right, when I say OK to activate the dialogue box says that y copy is already activated and returns to the log in screen but it says the same thing and I end up going in circles. Not sure what to do... I have tried a re-install but no joy! Any ideas people?
Re: Windows Product Activation If its a legit copy that will not activate then u mite need to ring up microsoft to get it re activated !!!
Is the dialog box not saying that the copy has been activated too many times and as a result won't let you activate it? We had this problem with a copy of Windows server 2003 that the uni had on site licence (including student use), I took it home to find that it wouldn't let me activate it because of this, and I had to ring Microsoft to get it fixed.
It is legit... The dialogue box just says it's already activated, not that it has been too many times.
In that case you need to ring Microsoft up. One of a few things has happened: 1) Someone has used a key generator to get a serial for Windows XP, has come up with your key and registered it with Microsoft (this is highly unlikely, but not impossible). 2) Whoever had the copy before you may have registered it themselves. Did you buy it from a retailer? If so, who?
It came with my laptop... But I have it on my PC too (Its the PC with the problem). Am I allowed to have it on 2 machines? Problem is I cant even get into windows on the PC. Who do I contact - email/number?
The licence only permits you to use it on one computer (unless stated). The first copy will have been registered with the laptop - to give you the shortest version of this process, the machine tells Microsoft it's key, and gives it key identification about itself (the motherboard serial no etc.) If the copy has to be reactivated, Microsoft check this information to make sure Windows is being re-installed on the same machine. In this case your laptop and your PC are two different computers and it won't let you do it.
Every Windows OS from 2000 Pro upwards allows use on 2 CPUs, Advanced server 2000 and 2003 allow use of 4, anything more than that requires Windows Datacenter Edition Tek: Have you clicked the "remind me later" box at any point? that would do it either that or they've just cottoned onto the fact you're running two copies.
This I am aware of.. but its XP pro.. and my copy of XP pro.. and every other copy I have ever seen has not come with this label on the COA.. its very confusing!
They make a distinction between machines and CPUs... multiple CPUs on the same machine (up to a point) are allowed, multiple machines are not
