    windows 98SE audio driver

Am trying to fix a computer up its running Windows98 SE and the audio drivers are missing. its listed simply as a PCI multimedia device, is there somewhere I can download a universal driver.

I dont have the Windows 98 cd either which would make things easier i know.

is it a seperate soundcard or onboard?

if it's onboard - go to the manufacturers website - they'll have the drivers.

it it's a seperate soundcard, you'll need to read the chipset AND/OR model of the sound card then go somewhere like www.driverguide.com and have a look around - there's no real 'universal' sound card driver as every brand/make works differently.

its a separate card. How do I find out the chipset/maker?

Can I do it without opening her up?! lol

You'll have to read it off the card. Take side off, remove sound card. Look at the biggest chip, take note of the brand and groups of numbers
