for those of you who have a spare drive lying around and want to check out the new windows, they've add the RC1 (release candidate 1) to the website for free download. you can trial it until june

its a 2+gb file so might take some time to arrive depending on your connection

i got it last time they did it, but it was only available for about half a day as their servers got hammered!

Runs on a much slower spec machine and it looks really nice - it's what Vista should have been

Ive been running the earlier version of this on my work pc since its release and it runs much better than vista in an office environment, for networking etc !!

i'd have it at home AND at work - but it's set to stop working in August - which is a pain to then go back to vista or XP.....

52% for me - looking forward to having a look later today

totally bypassed vista - tried it a couple of times but its not compatible with half the stuff i use. hoping the xp mode solves this issue

heard a lot of good comments about windows 7, but im still not building my hopes up too much as its still microslop at the end of the day

Can you run this as a virtual machine? Wouldn't mind having a play about.

its still classed as a bug ridden beta mate, dont try it if you have any doubts

release candidate doesnt mean its ready, it means they think it might be ready. its not due for release until january, so there will be another 2 of these before then i reckon

Release Candidate is usually the first time they THINK it's ready to be packaged - however they've got no plans for RC2 so this must be the 99.9% as the OEM's are being shipped in Sept.

I've had no problems with it on 1 of my spare work machines but i haven't used it for more than web, emails, etc.

well, i'm completely 100% shocked and confused how it downloaded and installed fully with NO hitches at all. stunned.

using it atm, can't get too attached tho because they take it off you in august dont they?

havent had any problems so far although i've basically been using it for the web. the most important thing in my eyes is that i didnt have to re-install or download any of the updated drivers for this dell machine, as i had to for XP - and it didnt fuck up my bootloader as well, which was my number 1 fear.

    roll on the glitches
