    Wind Turbines

If you are stood behind a wind turbine on a very windy day, would the wind be as strong behind as it is infront?

Quite random but I thought about it this morning when I was driving to work

you get no draught from a wind turbine as it's not a fan, it's simply a mechanism that the wind turns in order to generate power. it's fan shaped to allow the correct movement. Besides that if it were powerful enough to generate any wind it's too high up for you to feel it.

People in Wales nect to the windfarm there complained when it was put up that the wind suddenly got stronger, and this was proved ridiculous.

I meant if you are behind the turbine, the wind is blowing towards the turbine with you behind it, with the turbine using the wind to generate power would the wind be weaker once it hit any objects behind the turbine?

What a weird thing to think of

I'd reckon that the answer would be no because the pressure from the impending propeller that was to come into contact with that air stream next would disipate the air stream and the strength of the wind would be lost. Plus some of the wind would be deflected off the propellers so that would decrease the strength

It wouldn't really affect the wind speed as the amount of power converted by the turbine is minimal compared to the actual energy carried by the wind.

If you think of it as standing behind fence spread wide apart.

It would be slightly weaker due to the blades moving the wind but not enough for you to feel it.

    Hope that helps
