    will chelsea spoil another youngster

Freddy Adu's agents were not commenting on reports that Chelsea had won the race to sign the American starlet.

Adu, the world's most sought after young player, has been chased by a host of clubs from Spain, Italy and England.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has courted Adu for a number of years, but his dreams of luring the 16-year-old to Old Trafford look to be dwindling.

It is being reported that Major League Soccer - who own Adu rather than his club DC United - are close to sealing a deal with Chelsea.

Adu has recently won his first full cap for USA and is still holding dreams of making the World Cup squad.

It is suggested that Adu could be wanted in England as soon as this summer, but a work permit looks highly unlikely to be granted - although a World Cup spot would enhance his claims on appeal.

Adu's agent Sports Net refused to confirm any specific interest and denied any deal was already in place.

"All I would like to say at this stage is that Freddy has obviously attracted a lot of interest internationally," said Dan Segal.

"We are mindful of the fact that he will turn 17 in the summer. At this stage, nothing has truly been decided."

On the playing front Adu has been sent home from the US training camp and has been told by coach Bruce Arena to win a regular starting place for DC United.

"I've just got to work hard and be a regular starter for DC," Adu told the Washington Post.

"The month of April is very important for me because Bruce said he is going to be monitoring my every move and I'm just going to work hard and keep improving and bringing that to DC United.

"If I do that, Bruce is watching, so he might give me that last shot to go in and try to prove something. Hopefully, that's the case."

Arena added: "The route to the national team is through his club team, not being with the national team.

"All these guys with the national team are regulars with their club teams. That's the next step for Freddy, which is going to be difficult because DC has a lot of talented players."

    I can... Adu.

You're slating the league and the players, but Adu can't even get in the first team. The premier league is shit loads better than MLS, yet there's been plenty kids get first team action.

I haven't seen Adu play yet, but on the evidence it doesn't sound like he's all that.

he's good but i dont get why you hype him so much? he's not even a regular starter for DC United?

If Mcbride is keeping him out of the national side does that not tell you something?

Re: will chelsea spoil another youngster

Maybe he would be better suited at a club like Man U where he wouldnt sit on the bench to earn his weekly wages like most of the Chelsea squad

He would gerguson wanted him long while but its got to be a deal that suits his best needs under the new protection of younger players but chelski will probs just give them 20 million like arsenal did with the southampton kid.

but in this country fergusen would be the best to bring him through

I would hardly say spoiled, granted he ain't really got his game but look @ the players keeping him out, forgive me if i'm wrong but Robben and Cole are still fairly young. I think robben is younger than SWP. Playing around the players he is can only be doing him good. He will get his game soon, esp after last nights performance.

the man jose knows what he's doing
