How does this affect me ? Answer: The Regulation of Investagatory Powers Act (RIPA) is United Kingdom legislation that became law in July, 2000. This law requires Internet Service Providers to maintain a copy of all email it's users send and receive by use black boxes that the government itself will be funding. It has been shown that the RIP ACT directly contradicts the UK Human Rights Act which stresses employees have the right to privacy at work. The RIP Act demands employers log and track their staff's internet movements. The scariest part of the RIP Act is this: If you have encrypted any messages or maintain a public/private keypair then it is a criminal offence to not hand over your keys if they are demanded of you. ------------------------------------------ What is wrong with my existing chat software ? Answer: If you are using MSN Messenger, AIM, ICQ, IRC, or any other instant messaging or chatting software, the chances are your conversations can be and are being watched. Email messages sent to you sit on mail servers all around the world and anyone with access to these servers can read your messages at any time. Since most mail servers have back-ups done every day, your emails could be sitting in data-warehouses in various places around the world for many years to come. All other chat software uses plain text messages, which means your conversations can be monitored by the chat server you are using, by your office network administrators or even your ISP (and any of the numerous networks it travels through on its way to its destination).
The Americans used the spy system to steal business contracts there is proof of this!!! Fact: If you dont tell the UK Policeman your encryption password you can get 7 years in jail!!!
didnt know that bit, but heard bout echelon. dont say anything anywhere electronically that u wouldnt want mr plod or the govt to know. even if you're not logged in to anything you aren't anonymous. IP address can be traced through ISP records to identify who it was.
You can bury your IP in as many different IP's as you like. A seperate warrent is required for each IP they needed information from.
The more machines u bounce thru the harder it is for them to trace, but what you have to remember is, if they want to trace back to you they can! Dont forget that Also, they may need warrant's to get info, but do u actually think they bother? Id safely say most of time its all looked up without anyone havin a clue wot's goin on!!!
hahah innit! certainly interesting reading tho readin up on all the fukkin shitew that goes virtually un-noticed... we do indeed live in a big brother society
Yep people, the days of being anonymous on the net are fading rapidly.
