Why are attacking players suffering this year?

Where are Torres, Berbatov, Ronlado, Drogba, R.Keane, RVPersie and Adabeyor?

Last year they where running amok breaking records here there and everywhere...smashing them in some places (Ronny)

This year atacking play seems to have been stiffled? The current player of year being mentioned is Nemanda Vidic a CB.

Have defenders "found them out" and are marking them out of the game or is it all coincidene?

Iv noticed managers are making DEFENSIVE subsitutions when winning or even losing (Rafa!) more this season with only Sir Alex having the balls to stick on 5 forwards at times. This is a exception rather than the rule.

No one has ran away with the Goal Scorers chart and if i had to pick a outstanding Attacking player at the momnet id struggle, early season you could have had Zaki or similar but they have gone off the boil and the player that springs to my mind is Carlos Tevez who is in all intents and purposes a Man Utd RESERVE.

This hasnt dared to be mentioned on match of the day or sky sports (no doubt in fear of starting a "football has turned boring mentality and therefore losing money..")

    Thoughts?

I agree, its been a shit season in terms of free flowing attacking footy.

I think that there is so much money in the game these days that managers are scared of the drop as in almost all cases it means an automatic sacking. Even if you go through a bit of a bad spell like Paul Ince you aren't given the chance to sort things out. This also means that even teams that are normally mid table bankers are scared of being dragged down into a relegation fight so are adopting defensive tactics to guarantee their premiership status and financial future. I also think that this new seven subs on the bench option has meant that managers can make three defensive substitutions if they like as they have the choice, whereas before when you had the choice of four outfield players to chose your three subs from you would normally have two defenders max to chose from.

Maybe this financial crisis will take some money out of the game and lessen the gap between the premiership and championship, with less attention being put on finances and and more on free flowing football. Gone are the days when a team could drop back down into the championship and rebuild and say that it was the best option.

Maybe there should be some tinkering with the rules to give more of advantage to attacking football. Been watching cricket, rugby league and aussie rules a lot, and every season there is a review of the game in how to make it flow better. All football seems to change each season is a slight change with the interpretation of the offside rule. Perhaps something as major as the change in the backpass rule is needed or even a bonus point for winning by a certain margin or having a certain goal difference/goals scored?

All the players you have mentioned there have been injured at one point.

The Ronaldo situation wasn't going to happen again really it was a one off.

Berbatov took his time to get used to Man Utd and even though i still think he's over priced i'd say that something like 10 goals and 12 assists for his club by the end of Jan good going.

Torres has looked great again at points this season but every time he starts finding some form he gets a knock and is out for a few weeks.

Is Anelka still top scorer? as he was doing class then it went to shot when he wasn't getting played as Drogba was back and disrupted his form.

Then as for defenders i think with the gap between bottom and teams getting to europe and the league how tight it is there's too many clubs scrapping for their lives to have easy games for the teams in the top 6 to go there and take them apart so games all through the league have generally been closer.

Add Aston Villa as serious contenders also and there's now a kinda "Big 6" going for the 4 champions league spots it also maeans there's extra games where they will be close for Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd so the games are closer and you notice how well clubs defend to keep things tight.

Yeah yr right about injurys so yr saying it a conincidene?

With Rafa's rant & crazy substitutions (removing Stevie G was criminal last week and may cost the title) he's throwing his challenge away.

Fergie "The Godfather" is much the same, Berba isnt exactly tearin the place up hes lazy as fuck but will be a decent signing for them as that team could carry 3 lazy buggers.

Wenger wont buy any players (maybe Arse-shaving) and their rule about not offering over 30's contracts seems bizarre in todays game the mood in the camp (Gallas, Fallini leaving etc) dosnt seem solid it may be time for him to move on.

Chelsea are unpredictable with the team capable of beating or losing to anyone. Unhappy players in this camp too. Quaresma is a massive loan signing, he will either be amazing or a complete non starter

    Fuck Villa and Heskey
