trance as a whole i guess has come from the electronic bands that go back as far as the late 60's early 70's from people like Tangerine Dream (as mentioned) Jean Michel Jarre, Brian Eno etc.

they were the pioneers for using synthesisers in a similar way to how they are now.

Dance music was not invented as such it evolved from Disco, electro, new wave and avant garde music.

The first house tracks were named after the warehouse club as 586 said.

Basically they were being made in chicago from 1983 with Your Love by Jamie Principle and on and on by Jessie Saunders being some of the first.

The earliest trancy tune i ever heard was Space lab by Kraftwerk.

Age of love by Age of love is one the earliest modern trance i remember.Sven vath used to call stuff he played at the omen trance in about 1992 i think.

A good complation for early house is Acid on Soul Jazz records the sleeve notes give you the story of House's evolution.

Thats my take on it away.

Also if any is interested hopefully starting next thursday and running every week from then wiil be a night @ Camp David called Jack To Jack playing all the stuff that influenced house such funk, disco ,electro, itila disco and electronica as well early house, acid, techno and bits breakbeat hardcore.
