    ubuntu and knoppix are two of the best I've seen from looking at them...

    it's easier for the sake of compilation though if you use something on a drive, even something like fedora or one of the old red hat distro's, they'll easily fit on a 10gb drive if you want to run it on your PC.

    ubuntu comes in a version that can run on a mac if you're interested.
