Whats happened tp Promise please Promoters??

Sorry put this into the wrong forum I think earlier.

I'm studying away at uni in London and was really looking forward to paying a visit to Promise last Friday. I had some mates come up for the weekend and the plan was Promise on Friday and then Shindig for Satoshie Tomeii on Saturday. All week I'd been telling everyone that was coming up what a great night Promise was and to expect something special.

When did Promise had ditched its 'quality' booking policy. What has happened to a club that Parks & Wilson described as 'the best Friday they've played in a while' I remember seeing Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg and Anthony Pappa in quick succession last time I was home.

What did I walk into last Friday??

Some hard house hell. It wasnt even half decent hard house hell. It was unrelenting and unintelligent.

Had the girl - Kerry James I believe - ever heard of a mixing desk. I'd be interested to know how she chose the noise she played.

The place had none of its old quality about it. Foundation was half empty. Young kids worshipping hard house.

So you're into filling the place with young kids rather than providing quality house music.

As the demise of Cream, Gatecrasher etc shows, only clubs that provide quality will survive.

Big Mistake. You had a reputation - the hardest hing to get in club-land - now you've lost it.

    Can you be taken seriously??

I value all opinions but you really don't know what you are talking about mate. If you knew about how clubs function around the uk you would not of wasted your time typing.

The music WAS mint on friday too?!?!?!?

And kerry never played a hard house set?!?!?!?

And cream isn't a hard house club, nor is crasher one plays house/prog the other plays trance... as rob says you really don't have a clue.

    Mark,

You said the four named d.j's didn't pull in the crowd. I hope you are not including Sasha in this as I seem to remember that Foundation was full to bursting point that night.

I know it's old hat on here but why no repeat of that night?

I head that Sasha thought it was shit and that's why he's never been back or is he just out of Promise's league?

You really are havin a laugh arn't ya. Whats the big deal about sasha? All you want to do is fall asleep to his style of music. Theres no life. Proggy is not very good to hear all night. I went to Vivid tour at arena last year. Burridge, Tom Stephan and Sasha. How bored was i? There was no life in the whole arena. everyone just ploddin along. Boring!!!!

have to agree bout the proggy stuff.

i used to be a regular @ Union in The Space, Leeds. I will always remember the night when it was Seb Fontaine, Rob Tissera and Maurice. The night started proggy and built to a pumping climax with rob finishing the job off as only he can do. You really couldn't move inside the venue - it's only meant to have about 450 people in but there must have been at least 600. That was probably the best night i've been to and really others should follow in copying the running order. Seb isn't one of my favourites but he built his set perfectly so the roof was lifted just before Rob came on.

The cost of DJs like Sasha is stupid especially when you have quality like messers Tulip and Hardwick at your disposal.

hope i haven't ranted too much!!!

I don't like to criticise D.J's or different styles of house music but when you must understand when you speak of Sasha you are talking about a man who has been there from the off. Yes his musical style isn't 'jump around the dancefloor all night' but his mixing and the way he can subtly change the mood is something that none of the Promise 'regulars' can do.

When i saw him at Promise i thought he was awesome, although you all will probably disagree, and he certainly filled the club like never before.

Also admitedly he was rather slow at the Vivid night but then again i don't think i've ever seen a D.J who has been fantastic every time (apart from Digweed and he is way out of Promise's league!)

I think a lot of people are missing the point completely...

Its not a case of Digweed/Sasha/etc. being out of promise's league - its a case of them not suiting the current night... could you imagine Eddie Halliwell playing basics, Sasha doin sundis, DJ Spoony doing promise? No as they don't suit the clubs.

Diggers/Sasha and the likes aren't out of promises league (Promise is one of the biggest clubs in the north east?!?!?!) they merely don't suit the current music policy  Promise have no problem booking exclusive superstar dj's like Mauro Picotto and PVD.

True Sasha, Digweed and co. would fill promise - BUT - there is more to running a succesful night than booking big name dj's - if putting on big name dj's was all it took to run a succesfull night everyone would be a millionaire!

In its proggie days promise had a nationwide reputation as a cool club - but it still failed! As have most british prog clubs - they've failed or evolved.

Have to say completely agree with Smart E. Prog just doesn't seem to fit the Promise bill anymore. It's changed. I've only been going for a very short time but even within the few months it seems to have changed a lot. I couldn't imagine Anne Savage playing in February when i started going. :)

I miss the days when it seemed like global underground owned promise (or at least were there almost every weekend) but that said, I'm really looking forward to this friday. :D

Are there any plans for the odd proggy night in the future?

    Steve
