    4200+

Although.. it could also depend upon bus speed and cache.
I'd still say the 4200+ though..

    iirc prescotts are horrible chips..

Edit.. never noticed the raymond bit

I prefer the AMD one - but then I've not seen either running windows, only Linux and Solaris x86.

You didn't mention that as an option :tut:

The Core 2 Duo chips.. especially conroe based ones.. are insanely fast..

Make sure you get a E6600 or above.. 4MB cache is a must imo!

I will be purchasing a kentsfield in 2008.. depending upon how the intel/amd roadmaps play out..

it's not an option at the moment, but maybe in the next few months - the joys of all new equipment coming thru me first ;)

    it'll be a Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 / 1.86 GHz ( Dual-Core ) with 2mb cache - perfect for web browsing

My macbook (running vista) has a c2d 2.0ghz with 4mb cache - its really really quick until it runs out of ram (1GB) which it does very quickly unfortunately ... I usually run outlook 2007, visual studio 2005, and then virtual pc 2007 with a winXP installation and visual studio 2003 in that ... Im always getting 'out of memory' warnings with that :(

Seems like these days, unless your running games its all pretty much of a muchness ... with ram being the big issue?

processor speed/size advances has really slowed down recently, compared to how it was 5 or so years ago - it's all now down to storage, RAM, cache, HD data rates etc.
