What is the best way to play HD movies/programs on my tv using what I have?

I have a Samsung HDTV which I believe goes upto 780i or whatever it's called.

My graphics card is a GeForce 8800 GTX with dual DVI

My TV has DVI and HDMI ports.

I don't buy DVDs I just download stuff like that and I don't have a DVD player or an Xbox 360.

What are my options? Will I get the best I can using the DVI connector straight into my TV or will that not actually be displayed in HDTV?

What else can I do? I feel it is a bit of a waste having never used it for HD.

    Cheers.

Yep just think of the TV like a monitor - all your doing is connecting the pc to the tv and setting the resolution to 1920 x 1080 (or something similar) which is full HD resolution

Then as long as what you playing on your pc is high resolution media (like a game being played at ??? x 1080 or ??? x 720, or an HD resolution movie you've downloaded) .... your done.

DVI to DVI or DVI to HDMI would display video in HD depending on your graphics card output.

You just would need to carry the sound, could play using PC speakers or if your tv has sound input 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead or 3.5mm to phono left and right lead.

Youd probs need a copy of powed DVD to playback hd files from the pc.

Jesus Aaron, I've got a top end sound card running twin gold plated auxiliary cables into my very crisp sounding Denon HiFi (which I tested on the spot in curries by banging out James Holden prog tracks on a busy saturday).

Fucking PC speakers and 3.5mm stereo jacks?

Cheers though, although I don't get what you mean about depending on my graphics card output?

Do you not need HDMI to carry a true HD signal then? Yous are saying that DVI does it?

dvi is digital visual interface basically just carries the video signal hdmi will carry both. leave your audio going through the denon and just use a dvi to dvi or even dvi to hdmi cable for the video. and when pilfering films make sure theyre hd 720 or 1080 are usually in the title but u can tell by the file size usually as theyre fucking hyowage
