What happened to "proper" techno? Umek and Valentino Kanzyani don't play it anymore and I'm seriously disheartened - they were my favorite DJs, but I last saw them in Spring 2005. The music they play is more like slower dingey darker techno material now (unsure whether it's minimal or not), and where I still think it's alright it doesn't have that 'party' mood to it where everyone's jumping up and down and loving it after every breakdown. I demand great techno.
Re: What happened to "proper" techno? I got his cover CD on mixmag and remembered you goin on about Umek ages ago but it wasn't anything like i thought it was gonna be, now i obviously realise hes changed his style since then!
UMEK's new style is a bit gash from what ive heard... its like cheesy minimal I used to love his aswell
Of course (but still true ) # What sort of thing do you mean? There have been a lot of producers jumping onto minimal in the past year or so, but there's still plenty about if you look for it. If you list some people you used to like, I dare say I'll be able to give you a load of producers and DJs that are playing that sort of thing
I think I can answer for nass here. Marko Nastic - Devil in my Pants Tom Hades - Conception Marco Bailey - Mojito DJ Rush - Get On Up (Chris Liebing Remix) Looped percussive stuff that often has those awesome basslines.
yeah this sorta stuff tbh i can never be arsed to search through stuff because of the ammount of minimal about, which i can only take in small doses.
Rossy completely knows the score here, thats exactly what I would have said. Can you think of example DJs Chris?
Re: Re: What happened to "proper" techno? I'd feared it since hearing other 'percussive techno' djs from 2002 onwards suddenly changing their style when i've downloaded their 2006 sets. Fair enough if one or two hopped onto minimal but why all the big names? Minimal just isn't as fun? I really am disappointed and I am going to start actively looking for good techno DJs by randomly downloading sets posted in various spots.
