    weight loss/fitness advice needed

for those of you who keep yourself fit on here, a little advice would be appreciated :)

basically, the last few years of student abuse have taken their toll and I look like a cross between rick waller and jade goody.

Eating healthy has never been my problem - I eat a fair bit of salad, some fruit when I feel like it, quite happy eating lots of fresh stuff, and I stay clear of the junk food. And I've been off the drink for a while too.

My problem is that no manner of diets seem to get shot of the fat I've picked up.

Over the summer I'm going to get my bike out and try and get back into shape - I've already done an hour tonight and I'm gonna try to do an hour every night and see if that helps.

What I'm wondering is if any of you have any regimes or routines to recommend that might help? Is it worth giving additives/supplements a go or is it worth staying clear of them? When is best to do exercise (before or after meals), and am I better giving it a go first thing in the morning instead of last thing at night? What kind of exercise helps the most?

I'm not after being muscular or superbly toned, I'd be quite happy being back to skinny cunt size :D

    Any advice appreciated :)

I know Im a gal and all and might be slightly different, but when I go to the gym I try to alternate everything like short little bursts of excercise (about 10-15 mins) on different equipment, I read somewhere recently its best to keep your workouts varied rather than doing the same thing for a long time so maybe try that? Im not an expert or anything it just keeps me a bit more interested too and doesnt seem as daunting.

N although you might not be down with this I love doing the pump it up vid cos it has loads of cheesy ministry of sound songs on! but dont have anywhere to do it in flat but I noticed a difference from doing something like that about 4 times a week!

Run, run and run abit more. And try to eat smaller meals more frequently rather than eating 3 big meals a day.

The biking will do you good but not as much as running, unless your going 80% flat out for over an hour.
Try doing sprint drills, I prefer doing these to joggin simply because its more intense.

If you're eating relatively healthy then I wouldn't change your diet. Just do some exercise! If you're not keen on the treadmill why not try squash or something a bit more enjoyable?

To lose weight energy in must be less than energy out, which seems obvious but is something loads of people (mostly fat people) ignore.

Eat less and be more active - smaller meals/less snacking and a bit of exercise, combined with increased activity by getting off the bus a few stops early or parking the car further away from where you're going.

If you lose the weight slowly there's more chance of it staying off.

Or just take loads and loads of speed every morning.

i knew a lass who did this, she started off being festivly plump (a fatty) and ended up the exact same weight and just kept collapsing all the time

running might be a bit heavy on the skeleton if you havnt excerised in a few years. try walking first to get you in to a routine of getting out and keep on the same loop/course and try timing yourself/keep track of distance - do this so you can judge if its too much or too little you're doing

try and leave two hours after a meal before you excercise to avoid cramps and all that other bad stuff.

excercise in the morning before breakfast then its out the way and fills you full of power for the day

eat relatively close to the end of your session to refill used energy

    this might help:

and if you look further in to the biking:

that has some useful fitness tips on too

    :)

cheers jase, that looks useful :)

cycling is something I really enjoy - I've got a decent bike and all the gear to go with it. Back in my sixth form days I could beat the bus to college by about ten mins, and it was an 8 mile ride over a huge fuckoff hill (Consett) :D

One good thing about living where I do is that there's tons of cycle paths and stuff - so varying them and trying to do a different one each night might be a good idea. Tons of hills too :)

I did 6 and a bit miles in the space of an hour tonight and ended up with cramp in both legs, so maybe taking all the hills on straight away isn't such a good move

walking and running I'm not so keen on, never have been. I do get a decent walk to/from work every morning because I park half an hour away from where I work :)

at the moment I'm around 14 and a half stone. I know it's probably a big ask but by the time this year is out I want to be down to at least 12.

think I might look at how I eat my food too. I've always had three meals a day - maybe it's time to change that. I could always throw more fruit in :)

cheers for the advice everyone :)

ps rossy, you're a cunt

    I missed this

Nymark - I drink about a litre to two litres of water a day, a bit more healthy than some of the people in my office (we have a bloke who goes through 24 cans of coke a week!)

    what he said

For weight loss training its recommended you do cv exercises 5 times a week for at least half an hour each time. Its at least 20 mins into your workout before your body will turn to its fat stores for energy, so the longer the better. There is some disagreement into what the intensity of the exercise needs to be. some scientists say training around 65% of you maximum heart rate (the fat burning zone) while other recommend training at higerh intensities.

Weight training can help you lose weight in 2 ways, burning you carb stores, so when you finish exercising you turn to your fat stores for energy to conserve your carb stores. secondly lean body mass (muscle) burns more calories at rest, therefore the more you have the more calories you burn at rest.

When i give fat burning programmes i usually start the client off with weight exercises and then move them onto cv at high-ish intensity and then lower the intensity further on in the workout.

You also need to keep an eye on how many calories you take in, you may be eating the most healthy foods in the world but if you eating too much then this will just turn into fat

When I was a fat cunt I did 2 classes of 'spinning' a week. It's fucking solid, but well worth it, especially if you're into your cycling. Weight loss is very quick as well!
