Riton Here's a bit more of info on Riton: The third release from Tiefschwarz’s new Souvenir imprint comes from UK, London based, Producer/DJ Riton (pronounced ‘Reeton’ - the French ’street’ term for the name ‘Henry’), 29 year old Henry Smithson. Riton’s debut long- player “Beats Du Jour” /a downbeat electronica album, was hailed by luminaries including Laurent Garnier, Trevor Jackson, Richard Dorfmeister and Ewan Pearson, and hugely supported by UK magazines NME and The Face. In 2004 Riton released his follow-up album “Homies and Homos” a ‘rock meets rave in a basement’ electronic album, featuring the vocals of Lee Jones (Howdi), Luca Santucci (Playgroup) and Ben Rymer (Fat Truckers). Singles from the genius album include “Shitehawk”, a cover of The Cure’s “Killing the Arab” and “Homeless” – which features the vocals of Ben Fat Trucker, also Riton’s partner in his ‘Gucci Soundsystem’ outfit. Gucci Soundsystem’s ‘tough electro, acid house, bits of rock and digital ragga’ sound epitomizes that of East London. Their first release “Acarpenter” was released this year on Bugged Out Recordings. Riton has also released Berlin based label Get Physical (“Vejer” produced with Heidi was released earlier this year with a remix from Jesse Rose) and Parisian label Dialect recordings. He has remixed releases on labels Klein, Klang, Obliq Sound, F-Com, Four Music, 679 and has remixed artists including Human League, Kylie Minogue, Annie, Mystery Jets, Mylo, Run DMC and more. Riton’s first release for Souvenir Recordings “Hammer of Thor” is rave. Huge trippy, rave synths intersperse with acid bleeps and forward pushing beats. The Roman Flugel remix takes it down a level; letting disjointed beats build around the synths, bleeps and bobs. “Cocks and Noodles” is a more downbeat groover - Good for latehour/afterhour/anyhour. Riton is also, DJing around Europe (he recently supported Soulwax at Fabric, Panorama Bar, Berlin/Space, Ibiza /Sankeys, Manchester/Bugged Out/The Edge, Brazil/Lux, Lisbon - list goes on) and is currently working on his third album, which sees another twist in his musical direction. For this, his latest project, he has turned his back on the electronic music of today and has dived head first in the Kosmische world of 1970’s Germany -wait and see. He is also currently remixing a track for Jesse Rose’s imprint ‘Made To Play’ and another for Para One. Riton “Hammer of Thor” will be released January 15 on Souvenir.
