    Viera going to Real

Arsenal appear to have accepted defeat in their bid to keep club captain Patrick Vieira.

According to a radio report in Spain, Real Madrid have agreed a fee with the Gunners for the signature of the London club's French international midfielder.

Cadena SER radio station reported that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Arsenal vice-president David Dein have agreed a 35 million euro (£23.1million) fee for Vieira, who is expected to sign a four or five-year deal if the transfer goes through.

However, the report said that Arsenal had asked for a few days to line up a replacement - thought to be Porto midfielder Maniche.

Prisa, the media group that owns Diario AS and Cadena SER, has an investment in Real Madrid TV and is thought to be close to the Bernabeu outfit.

Vieira has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with Real Madrid for most of the summer.

The 28-year-old has not commented on the subject but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stated at the weekend that he believes the player will stay at Highbury.

There were reports last week that Arsenal representatives, including vice chairman Dein, were meeting with officials from Real but these were denied by the club. Similarly Real also played down reports quoting club sources expressing their interest in the player.

Wenger brought former Cannes player Vieira to Arsenal for £3.5million from AC Milan eight years ago.

He has since matured into one of the best midfielders in the world and is an obvious target for Real as they rebuild after last season's disappointing campaign.

I would say they are selling him on the cheap. Why do they have to accept such a bid? How long does he have left on his contract?

A year I think :spangled: Not sure though.

I would say hes got to be worth at least £40M despite his age he would be a regular feature in any team in the world. Awesome player

I can see you make a realistic push for the League Cup this season, but for a few players holding you back. The Flying Lemon is one in particular.

I am confident there will be no relegation :D... I'm holding off on league table predictions after the "Sheff Wed" debacle a few years ago ;)

do you not feel they're midfield is slightly overloaded? Always been a real problem with them. They need depth at the back, especially wing back positions but I guess it's the "Galacticos(spl?)" trend.

finishing top of the shite league is not an achievement!

We are going through a lean spell, but at least we're still mid-table in the top league. We didn't spend years in the wilderness of div 2 until someone with a silly perm came and sorted yous out

Despite the mid-table finishes and the inconsistencies in the team, they've still managed to win something within the last six years. Which is an achievement
