Van Buyten interested in Magpies Daniel van Buyten's agent admits the Belgian international defender would be interested in joining Newcastle. Van Buyten, 27, currently plays for Hamburg but had a loan spell with Manchester City two seasons ago. "Newcastle are looking for a central defender and he is a very good one, so why not move to England?" his agent Christophe Henrotay told BBC Sport. "Newcastle are a top club in England though they had a bad season, and the Premier League is the Premier League." Van Buyten moved to Hamburg on a four-year contract last summer and captained the side last season and Henrotay admitted it would be a difficult decision for him to leave. "Daniel is still under contract so it's difficult to talk about a transfer, but England would be a good move," added Henrotay. "The Premiership is a very interesting league, one of the best in the world. "But he will not go looking for a move. He's only just got to Hamburg, he's the captain and was just named in the Bundesliga team of the year as well." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/4596941.stm i think he's a good player, and it's encouraging to be linked with what i certainly consider 'realistic' signings.
hmmm 27year old, whether hes good or not im not sure but he hasnt got too long left in him, id say at the point newcastle are at now a long term young replacement would be better, start from scratch and build up a good team
as cole says we have 2 quality young'uns in taylor and ramage, to be honest we need to be buying quality experienced players, players that come in and do a job, and 27 isnt very old anyway, alot of players get into the prime at this age. i havent actually seen much of him though so cant really comment on him as a player
he's had a great season @ hamburg, and while he was hardly at man city long, he looked good. i think he's just what is needed
apparently: Hamburg disclosed yesterday that they have received a bid of €5m (£3.4m) from Newcastle United for Daniel Van Buyten. Facing competition from Werder Bremen, Newcastle may have to raise their offer by £1m to secure the 27-year-old central defender, but comments from Van Buyten yesterday morning suggest that he is willing to go to Tyneside ahead of Bremen. "I have spoken to Graeme Souness and he said that he wants me and five or six others," said Van Buyten. "He [Souness] said that he wants to rebuild and that next season Newcastle are going for the Champions League at least. He also said that Newcastle will even try for the Premier League title. "He told me that I will play alongside Jean-Alain Boumsong and that Boumsong already knows. "I do not know yet if I will even leave Hamburg but they are not in Europe next season and I want to play in the Champions League, that is my ambition." Van Buyten was speaking at Belgium's international squad base in Spa as Belgium prepare for Saturday's World Cup qualifier with Serbia in Belgrade, and he also mentioned "concrete interest" from Werder Bremen. Bremen can offer Van Buyten Champions League football next season and can, along with Newcastle, afford to pay more than £3.4m if necessary. Newcastle can only offer Intertoto Cup football, a competition Hamburg may yet enter. But Van Buyten, who played briefly on loan from Marseille at Manchester City just over a year ago, said yesterday that he considers the Premiership "the best league" and added that while he thinks "Hamburg is a lovely city, Newcastle is a football city".
That's bullshit tbf. We need experience players. He is a very, very good player, and even though Bramble has got better, we can't rely on him fully. Paying 5 mil for a 27 year old centre half is great business. He could easily have 6 years left at the top!
i agree, proven, selected in the bundesliga team of the season, and we need experience in there to help develop the likes of taylor, ramage and even to a lesser degree - bramble.
Boum Van Buyten Brmable Taylor Ramage Now thats a great belnd of experince and young talent.. thinkgs could be looking up if we manage to keep given too
yeah, looks encouraging. im not still entriely convinced of baba, but i have confidence in carr, and hopefully our problem left side (of both midfield and defence) can be solved. i hasten to add by this i dont mean scrap baba. all we really need is left side and forward and that would appear to be all that is needed to 'patch the holes'.
Still need a quality left and right back though! Ramage/Taylor are both not good enough to play full backs for a Top 4 Prem team!
Yes scrap Baba! He could not care less about our club! I would rather have Elliott playing there, at least he gives a shit! I'd have Michael Ball + Vignal over him. Both ok players, but both eager to prove that they are good players
yeah, im just talking first 11, minus cover. but i dont know if we are in a position to get another left back, right back, left wing, forward AND van buyten... that would be one hell of a shopping trip tbh i guess we'll see tho
We should have at least 20mil to spend, plus whatever money we get off selling players, with at least 5mil off Bellamy. I'll be very upset if we don't spend at least 25mil this summer
who would be our backline then? boumsong has alot of experience and bramble is getting good, who would you drop?
I would play 3 center backs and 2 wing backs At the min i would play Baba Carr Taylor Boum Bram We need cover incase bramble gets back to dodgey self
