    User Permissions in Vista

I've just tried to install a program from disk and got an error saying that I need Administrator permissions. I'm logged onto an account with admin permissions already so I can't think what to do.

I read something yesterday about this but can't remember what the crack was. Sure it was something simple like right-clicking on whatever your trying to install and there being an option there.

I agree but it does just stop stuff from executing with full privileges. At least until they find out how to implicitly run as administrator...

the annoying thing is some programs just crash...so at first I was like...eh..but then I realized to try it with that and it worked

For the most part you don't need to do it but it's probably just good practice to do it whenever you install something

Tweak your UAC settings and you will get elevated priveliges anyway

You could also disable UAC altogether (I have) or enable the actual Administrator account, then use that instead and you won't have the trouble again

Wait until you try and get IE to let you use ActiveX, that was a right piss on

Once the beast is tamed, it's really good IMO.

UAC is already turned off as I did it through trial and error the first time I got this problem, and was a suitable solution that time round. This time it's not helping, and neither does 'run as administrator'. I get an error saying I need to install from an account with full administrator privileges.

How do I add the administrator account to the user accounts so that it automatically logs me in when I boot?

If you want to to that then you will have to enable the administrator account (and rename if you want) and then disable all other accounts, and not set a password for the admin account (this is if you want auto logon)

in the start box enter "local security policy"

i forget the exact sub menu but poke around until you see the bit about the administrator account - enable this

then go to computer management and then users, and disable your other accounts.

You may want to make sure your existing files are not private so that they can be transferred, if you intend to permanently use the administrator account
