    USB Midi DJ Controllers..

I'm playing around in Traktor much more now.. and I'm kinda getting sick of assigning new stuff to the keyboard.. as things are getting confusing.

So I've been thinking about getting myself a Controller that will control 2 decks, with basic EQ mapping and a few effects.

I'm new to this.. and really just messing around as a bit of a hobby.
I have a bit of cash saved up and I just fancy purchasing one atm.. budget of around 200 quid max.

After a bit of searching I quite like the look of the one linked below.. anyone got any advice or other options I should look at?

    Gracias :D

if your using traktor, and are on a budget, thats a great mixer, but check out ebay as my mate got it for about 90 quid.

works really well and is not too different to cdjs once u get the hang.

I went for the BCD3000 but fyi that will not work with Vista 64..

They have vista drivers out but they only support the 32bit variant :\

Gonna go for the Hercules steel.. after I check it out and make sure the fecker will work lol.

christ the BCD has went Right up in price recently

i bought mine new at the start of this year off the same site for 110! however nay - dont get the BCD, the soundcard on it's wank, and anything beyond bedroom use is no good at all.

i'm going to get one of these:

    http://www.dv247.com/invt/48363/

Novation Nocturn, they are a class bit of kit (you'll need to get an external soundcard tho)

the Behringer stuff is alright to start out on, but i think the build qualitys a bit shady and the sound quality to a point isnt really acceptable. not for that price anyway.

aye, massive latency problems with it like, and very questionable compatability with traktor.

    Novation Nocturn FTW :)

This might be a totally stupid question....BUT.....are you's just using a normal run of the mill laptop with the controller / programs?

aye, sort of - it's a canny high spec one but 'normal' ish.

however never even consider using any programs like traktor with vista. there just isnt any point.

Traktor 3.3+Vista+BCD3000= Bluescreenofdeath for no apparent reasoning.

I've got Ableton & doing anything kills my laptop. My laptop is pretty much bog standard (with vista) so before I even bother looking for a controller, I'll be laptop searching!

Was hoping your answer was the exact opposite of what you said!

I wouldnt ever dream of thinking of doing a live set on a laptop unless it was apple based.... for those reasons.

either that, or you would need to get a laptop prepared, have every service turned off and basically quarantine it and never use it for anything other than DJ'ing with. I had a brand new shop bought dell xps pc and NEVER dicked about with anything on it other than to install a few bits of development software, turn into an un-useable pile of mush within 12 months of 'windows updates' and daily use.

Love windows, and made my career using software based on it, but wouldnt trust it live, ever.

aye i'm like that to a point - however the dell bloke was round this morning (7am FFS) to completely overhaul my XPS, New motherboard, DVD drive, Heatsink - about 250 nickers worth, all on the warrenty :)

so hopefully i could realistically trust this machine now with W7 and as brid says taking off ALL the services and disconnecting it from the net. i know a few people who use XP Pro SP3 to play live off and they havent had problems. half the time if there is a problem is the hardware itself thats being an arse rather than the system they're running it through.

ive got vista home basic, w/ 2gb ram and simply CANNOT run traktor 3 and firefox together. Traktor + Ableton, Traktor + PS work fine, but as soon as i click on something in firefox, vista just lays down, pisses itself and has an eppy.

aye, that might be better, although it'll be a tad annoying for a while after using Windows stuff for so long. Mac's are class - nothing seems to go wrong with them :)

How much is a decent Mac these days?

I doubt I will ever do any live DJing so I dont think I could justify paying loads for a laptop, but I still want one where I can actually use the controller / program
