    Upgrade...

here's one for ya - my current system is:

    2GB ram
    dual core 2.8 processor
    sata drive
which are all reasonable. - but
geforce 7300 le (which is weak)

i've been scouting around for cheap (or very cheap) upgrades,

    up to now, this:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=127034

seems to be a reasonable upgrade, im hearing differing reports on it's capabilities, but i would be most dissapointed to buy it and find it doesnt really improve my system at all!

    opinions?

the 7300 is around the same price as the ati card you're looking at, so i wouldnt expect an increase at all

i wouldnt really bother forking out 30 quid for a gfx upgrade, might as well save a bit more and get something that will last longer than a week

aye, the prices are similar, that card is considerably cheaper on there than it would be normally though. the 7300 le is properly weak, even old games bring it to it's knees. im not expecting the world, but if i could push it on enough to play fear without my system nearly imploding would be a improvement!

256 of DDR2 is nowt nowadays, even 512 DDR2 - you'd probably find 256 running DDR3 would run nicer

thers no joy in just getting a gfx card the next level up, they become obsolete within months and you have to fork out again. i find its best to get a shit hot one then upgrade it maybe 2 year later

That graphics card is wank. Its not even an upgrade lol

the rest of your system is spot on.

that would be a nice upgrade for you.

would run most things nicely at decent resolutions.

otherwise splash out on something pricey like an 8800gts like mine :D

i ended up getting it as i knew i could offload it to my dad easy enough once it's reached the end of it's usefulness, lol.

i found a report from someone who bought one and clocked it as high as it would go, used the settings he provided and it's achieved a 3d mark score nearly 4 times higher than the 7300 le managed.

in itself thats nowt to shout about like, im still surprised at just how poor the le was, truly awful card!

it's achieved what i wanted it to, i can play fear at a good level and run half life 2 at max settings without any hiccups.

cheers for the advice though - think i will still replace it around xmas time (probably with that one from overclockers) and sell it on to my dad, i was gonna sell him the 7300le but i would honestly feel bad taking money off a family member for that piece of garbage!
