unlucky Newcastle so near but yet so far! Ive got a load of hankies for sale a fiver for 10 boxes . Robson out Robson out!
Bollocks... marseille are a great side and would have given you a good game regardless of what team you had out. You would have stood a better chance but to beat them on their own ground was a step too far.
The Lads where shit last night they deserved all they got fuck all as for bobby saying the team where heroic what a load of rubbish marseille are nothing special with a good striker, 1st half we where playing with 1 man in midfield god knows where Robert, Viana & Ambrose where, Bowyer should have started the game !!! If only Woody n Bellars had been fit As for Bobby saying Shola will be as good as Drogba and Boro best team in NE dont you mean Yorkshire Its harder to finish high in the Premier League rather than League Cup win
That goes without saying as leeds have been relegated... but part of north yorkshire is in the north east... so we can have both UP THE BORO
i fully beleive that with our full side out we would have beaten them, as was pointed out, they werent that fucking good. still, no shame in last nights defeat. it's hard to bear but the team was fucking hammered, obvious because we fielded a massively weakend and probably unfit side. considering the state of the team, i dont think they were too bad, but given our injury problems, last night was just a step too far. next time eh.
Newcastle weren't unlucky last night. They were outplayed by a more confident team and they made them look like total shite. Viana was terrible as was Ambrose. Things perked up when Bowyer came on though and there was a little bit of fight but Marseille are a very well organised team who defended really well. They showed how to get men back behind the ball and defend properly. Drogba was different class Lessons learned, back to building a better squad methinks.
newcastle were terrible, pure n simple we were given a footballing lesson by the better team, and u cant blame injuries because we only had one change from the team that played marseille in newcastle, fact we cant play as a team and have too many average players.
i do think the injuries played a part in last nights defeat - the home leg was nothing to write home about and we were still in dire straights regarding injuries then. woodgate marshalls the defence, minus him they look like they lack guidance - dyer i think we could have done without to be fair, ambrose picked up second half and done as good a job as i expect dyer would be capable of. jenas however was missed - viana was poor, and bowyer, while a marked improvement on viana - was NOT fully fit, and severly lacking match practice. and of course bellamy always causes problems for the defenders, even if it is just to move some of the attention away from shearer. admittedly, there's no point in speculating what could have been - and i agree, the team does need further improvements to progress further both in europe and domestically next season. BUT - i stand by my view that with a full side out we could have beaten them, yes, we were outplayed, but they werent that shit hot.
Interesting point and a full fit newcastle wouldve made a better game but even then I don't think you would've beaten them outright. It prob wouldve been a draw over the 90.
geordies weren't good enough - its a squad game remember? Liverpool played far better in Marseille and would probably have won out there had it not been for one moment of stupidity from a defender which put them down to 10 men. I think they had more of a case for being unlucky than you lot....And I seem remember Drogba hitting a post in the home leg? The best team won over 2 legs
Feel sorry for them losing after getting so far,but am chuffed they didnt get to the final cos means Miller wont be going *wakes up* Woooooa, wtf am I doing in this forum??? *makes swift exit*
We played shit, we're shit, this season is shite, end of story. My heart snapped when their second goal went in and is just beginning to mend. *Sigh*
We were awful. Did not turn up, at all. I think only Given, Bramble , Speed and Shearer are the only ones to emerge with any credit from that game. Biggest game of the season and the team just didnt turn up. Never once did i think we were gonna score a goal. No movement whatsoever. Drogba so comprehensively showed O'Brien up it was embarassing. Missed Woodgate and Bellamy SO badly. Dyer too to a lesser extent. Robert just isnt good enough. A few wondergoals aside, hes done bog all for us. His dead balls were even gash last night, and he hasnt contributed anything in open play in the whole of 2004. I still think with Woodgate and Bellamy, we would have won the tie.
