United utility player Liam Atkin will be sidelined for between 6 and 8 weeks after sustaining a broken leg during training earlier this week.

The 19 year-old from Ashington had appeared in all four reserve league games this season but was missing when the second string began their Northumberland Senior Cup defence on Monday against Walker Cnetral

Atkin has made two non-competitive first time appearances to date - in the Malaga friendly in 2005 and the Craig Fleming testimonial game earlier this season. His current contract ends next year.

gutted for him if it is

its me lil bro and he hasnt broken his leg he's fractured his kneecap and basically they cant do anything to fix it apart from let him rest !

hes got a brace to restrict his movement but will only be out for 8 weeks .

Infact the way they treat him was a disgrace ! basically he went in for a tackle got caught said he heard a crack and the physio told him it was just cartlidge damage which would have ment 3 - 4 weeks out . They then sent him home with no crutches as apprentley they had none  So he went back to me mothers and lay in pain for 24 hrs before they got him in for a scan and realised he had a fractured fucking kneecap !

Newcastle are shit with its non first team players and basically treat them like shite ! wor youngun wont be there come the end of the season thats a garuntee !

Newcastles medical staff are shocking when it comes to their first team players. It's not suprising that a youth / reserve player got this kind of treatment.

Newcastle have always been known for the lax attitude towards the youth policy!

no wonder boro's kids are doing so well.
