    Uninstalling an operating system

    i have windows xp on my laptop and i installed xp 64 aswell


    now i want to get rid of XP64 but how do i do it without affecting Windows XP

    Was it an upgrade or are you running dual boot?
    If it was an upgrade you couldn't do it..

    If it was a dual boot.. and on different partitions then just format the partition..

    they are on the same partition and its a dual boot

    Thats waaay messier then, you'd have to hunt out and delete the directories associated with the new copy of windows (but it's more than likely they've both used common folder's like Program Files to install everything to). Thats why it's best to install them on seperate partitions so they can't interfere with each other.

    To remove the choice on startup you need to either remove the line from the boot.ini for XP64 or right click on my computer and select Properties. Click the advanced tab, and click Settings under Startup & System Recovery. Either untick the "Time to display List of Operating Systems" box or click edit to edit the boot.ini file directly.

    after that you're gonna have to work out what directories xp64 used to stash files in and weed them out which will probably take you ages...
