TV Licence I have a TV in my flat but my new tenant does not want to use the TV and therefore doesnt want to pay for a TV licence. If we took the plugs off would I still need to get a TV licence or do I have to physically remove them from the property? Ive looked on the website but it doesn't really say, it just says if you watch the Tv you pay, but he won't actually be using it And before you say to tell him just not to get one he is a right fanny and is demanding it is being removed as he wont be aying for the licence
Just arrange a time to remove it!?? Thats all i'd do Would it not be down to him if he got fined for it, if he did have one??
It's a joint responsibility between landlord and tenant. I just dont have a car to put it in and take away and there's 2 that weigh an absolute tonne so would be much easier to just leave it there!!!
Its not illegal to own a TV without a licence, its just illegal to use it. Just ring them up and tell them the situation, Ive done that before and they were fine about it as long as it wasnt used.
He does not have to pay for a TV license if he is not going to recieve a broadcasted signal. He is (possibly) doing nothing wrong. It is perfectly legal to own a TV if you are using it for games consoles/ a monitor/DVD's etc, it's only if you are recieving an actual signal that you need one. Tell him to remove the aerial cable and put it in a drawer (or you take it away) then try and tune it in automatically. It won't pick anything up. Then tell him to send the tv liscencing people a written letter (for proof) informing them that you own a tv for xbox/dvd purposes or whatever but do not intend to recieve a signal. They then said someone round who will notice that there is no way of recieving a tv signal and "cross you off the list". May sound like they're trying to lure you in but if he's not going to watch it he doesn't have to worry and it would never go to/stand up in court. They assume that everyone is going to have a tv and try to recieve a signal with it but it's quite simply not true. Proof from an email I sent asking about this:
Re: TV Licence Well OTT. He has not commited a crime. I hate TV aswell. They do not mention it on their website because if they don't specify it more people will buy a lisence
It's about time the TV licence was scrapped like. I just don't get why they don't put adverts on the BBC then no one would have to pay ffs.
Wouldn't that also mean that we'd get poorer quality programming as the BBC would have to bow to commericial pressures resulting in a fall of new and innovative stuff as they go for ratings winners instead? I doubt the Today programme, Radio 5, 6 Music etc would benefit from having adverts in them either.
the tv license is a fucking rip off, if you detune bbc1 and bbc2 arent you ok. i thought the tv license was basically to pay the bbc as like pedro said they dont use adverts where as everyone else does
I don't think detuning BBC2/BBC1 makes the slightest bit of difference, you've got to pay the BBC regardless of if you just plan to watch the other channels or not. It's a shit money making state of affairs, like taxing your right to watch television. What I said deffinitely works though. No signals = no problem.
i thought tv licence was just to watch tv, however, matt recently bought a graphics card for the computer off ebuyer and last week he got a letter from tv licensing saying that they're aware he bought this and he doesnt have a tv licence in his name (this is cos its in my name)... I've never heard of this happening before...........surely the tv licensing people should check address not individuals
Radio and website? - put adverts on those aswell. what new and innovative programmes do we see these days? Most of what's on is repeats.
Nah, because you may sneakily watch the BBC channels. They shouldn't be allowed to make you pay for something if you don't want it. If the BBC was good then maybe the 100 odd quid would be justified. But it's proper shite! IMO Channel 4 is the best. Not that I watch alot of TV these days anyway.
