    Transformers and Car Audio

Say I want to run some 240/50 appliances in my car from the 12v DC battery: Where can I obtain a transformer and alternator to correct the input settings?

seen this done numerous times, theres a pirate radio station from down south who use this method when they goto car cruises (this was a long way back they could have stopped) i stood and watched this lad mix away in team valley retail park why loads of the surrounding cars were tuned in via the FM radio

    Thanks for the info.

So, an inverter must contain an internal transformer, presumably, to step up the voltage. Or does it work in another manner? I'm not an electrician :)
