    Toon sign Simpson

    from nufc.com

Good signing imo, has been solid this season, scored a cracking goal and is the right age to just get better.

Bargain at that price as well.

Hopefully a few more will follow him.

i good signing for us (not amazing like some are making out) but still decent for us and the level we are at now. he complements enrique nicely. now we need a good player for him to link up with on the right hand side as in my opinion guthrie and taylor just arn't good enough and lovenkrands now surely has to be our off the shoulder striker up top with one of the big lads shola or carroll

Good signing, one of the ones I wanted to see at St. James's on a perm basis.
In regards to 'others following' then I wouldn't hold your breath. Considering we've been top of the table for most of the season, look odds on favoruites to go straight back up, broke record attendances yet still cant seem to attract fuck all is quite worrying imo. Both Beckford & Killgallon snubbed us when the chips were down.

However if theres a glimmer of hope then id like to see the rumours of a loan deal with Jack Wilshere materialise

Agree on Beckford, reports from Leeds fans say he's a complete tit (Well any footballer with a neck tattoo is), plus he can score goals at lower levels but does very little else on a football pitch. In terms of Simpson, I'm glad he's signed as he's played well in the majority of games this season and will get even better with at least one solid centre half beside him, that should be one of the main priorities now aswell as a goalscorer in the transfer window. We were terrible on Monday night in the centre of defence, no communication and no organisation whatsoever! Apparently Solano has been training with us the past couple of weeks, get your trumpets out!

guthrie will be a great player, but is a central midfielder being played out of position.

simpson is a good signing, said this yesterday. obviously i'd rather see somebody of a much higher calibre at the toon but in realistic terms, simpson is about as good as we're going to get. good crack if the fee being bandied about is accurate too.

you might be right, he might turn into a good premiership standard player. but as you said its all about signings and players good enough for us here and now, and relying on guthrie as a first choice midfielder at the moment is not where we want to be. he goes missing for long periods and the game often passes him by. his delivery is decent, and his dead balls are better than ryan taylors i agree... but if we do get back in the premiership and rely on players like Guth as first choice we'll be finding Scunthorpe (away) on our fixture list pretty soon again.

I've said all season that I feel sorry for Guthrie. You can tell by the way he doesn't hug the byline and the fact he's constantly coming short to collect the ball in the centre that he's a centre midfielder playing out of position. He's never going to get a place ahead of Smith or Nolan, even though I'd argue he's probably a much better footballer than the two of them in a sense that he's better on the ball and can actually pick a pass. The only reason he's played right wing is because he's got a good delivery and we have nobody else (if you class Gutierrez as a left winger now) to play that position.

I remember a few seasons ago when he pretty much kept Bolton up playing in the centre, and I can't see his chances of playing there getting any better when Barton is fit again.

simpson has done a good job but could get found out in premiership...

guthrie will never be a 'great' player

defence was worrying on monday - west brom played us off park at times. we have not played football like they have all season. we are still just grinding out results.

ashley could be taking a massive gamble if he does not invest. this season we have been lucky with injuries but with a few of those and suspensions could really struggle...

As a leeds fan i am happy he is staying till the end of the season, he may have a bit of an attuitude but seems becoming a better all round player. His first touch is some times poor but he is natural goal scorer he can hit a ball on the volley, chip it over a keeper and has the pace to beat the last man. (He turned Colacini a few times when we played you in the friendly).

He often went missing in big games but seems to have overcome that now his goal at Old Trafford being on the biggest stage in his career.

I think he would of improved your attack by giving you premiership pace, glad to see him stay till the summer and hopefully get out of this awful division.

Defensively he was pretty poor for us last season, thankfully we terminated his loan contract after Ince left and looked much better.

Lets hope he snubbed us to get you's promoted rather than holding out for the likes of Everton who have also been sniffing round him.
