    TO Mark...........

i attend promise nearly every friday and i have been waiting to see guy ornadel ever since i started clubbin, to this day i still have not seen him. me and three others came to promise on fri all wearing shirt, trousers, shoes! we were on the guesslist and the doorman stated that we werent dressed correctly!

is there a different dresscode when guy is on because the last time he was on before 13-12 the same doorman wouldnt let us in because we apparently werent dressed correctly.

we never have a problen gettin in promise normally so what are the logical reasons for not been allowed in!

does this doorman have his own rules, or is he supposed to stick to the dresscode because we WERE dressed correctly!

    Re: TO Mark...........

Mr Ornadel attends promise almost every 6 weeks... you'll see him (he never turned up on friday cos of flight problems... so u didn't miss him :D)

The dress code is there to keep out scallies... I don't know what you were wearing but sky blue ben sherman shirts and pin stripe trousers are the dress code of the beer monster (the people who cause trouble)... I'm calling you one but its often hard for doormen to differentiate between people...

The best way to garuantee your entry is to ring up the queue jumpers and put ur name on the list... they're less likely to refuse you - as your more than likely a loyal promise regular than a bloke out on the piss looking for a fight.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get in mate. It is really hard for bouncers to pick who should or should not be let into a venue.

A couple of tips (not just for Promise but if you are attending any event).

Never turn up as a big group of lads, queue up by yr self or in pairs.

If you are in a big group of lads (only), get dropped off around the corner (if yr in a taxi) and then follow above rule.

Try not to be rowdy in the queue, keep yr heads down.

You may have done all of the above and still not got in. All I’m saying is if I’m out I always follow these rules and as far as I can remember I’ve never got knocked back in my life.

Yep, totally agree with what Robs saying. Also remember to always walk away and not try and argue the toss either. Once they refuse somebody they wont change their mind and if you dont want to get refused the following week, just leave and take it as a bad night. Its a pisser but theres always Icon. j/k :)
Ive been clubbing now for a lot of years and have been all over the UK and have only ever been refused from one club and guess where? Yep, Foundation the first time I went. The reason I got was exactly the same as you. Now when i go i will dress down and wear a t-shirt etc and always get in no problem.

I was telling my mate (all of us hadnt been to promise before) not to wear his ben sherman shirt, he did and he got knocked back. Expected me to go home with him? Fuck that. I told him a week before, and I told him on the night (along with all my other mates telling him not to wear it too).

So I went in and had a wicked time with the rest of my mates, and met a boat load of wicked people inside promise

That is pretty sound advice. Also try not to make bad eye contact with the bouncers too?

Main thing, try not to stand out. If you look at the rest of the queue, try and fit into it. Don't make the back of it bottle up because there is 5 of you standing next to eachother, that makes you a really easy 'target'.

Well after last night's episode of 'Lets chuck half the queue out even if they are frequent guests' I have decided the tall bouncer on the door is the problem.

The rest do their jobs properly as far as i can see, but the tall one was well out of order.

I don't even think I need to explain why.

They turned away perfectly dressed people who were just out to have a good xmas bosh in Promise, they weren't rowdy, at first until they got pissed off and explained how they come all the time etc.

I think because the queue was so big they just decided to pick on random people - and what pissed them off more was the fact that they would not give a reason for not being allowed in.

I for one got in, but my two mates (very decent lads, well dressed) were turned away for no reason.

Til Mark came on the door that man was out of order.

    Numbers...

Just for the sake of argument, I wonder how many people are knocked back each week.

For example, if 100 people are knocked back on a Friday and it's £11 entry, then that’s £1,100 for that week. For the month that would be £4,400, and the year £52,800.

Now imagine if every clubber refused entry, would have spent an average of £28 (7-8 drinks, a steady night) at the bar. That would be a whopping £134,400 pa. Now that’s just rough figures.

Makes you wonder when people say the till's and door are down etc.

    Lee!

I appreciate you can't let people in if they turn up like that, but the guy in your example sounds frighteningly like a good 50% of the crowd come 1AM!

well heres my example talking from experience :

get taxi from home after waiting for friend to finish work, consuming nothing before hand...
pull up in a taxi, get out and join the queue, wait 5 mins in queue untill a certain bouncer walks up and says :
"sorry lads your not getting in tonight"
    i ask "why not"
he says "your just not getting in tonight"
"so is there a reason" i say
he says "no, your just not getting in"

and thats just one of many examples i could give

Anyone can put on a night with say Judge Jules, have a very slack door policy maximising the profits on the night (as Lee pointed out), chances are the club would be rammed and you'd make massive profits that night, however if you do have a slack door policy your branded with the unsavoury clientelle brush... So slowely the numbers start dropping till your left with a dud night or another Ikon (which unless money is your only objective is not the desired night), I don't want to go to Ikon cos I know its full of nobbers who are likely to start shit with me.... I go to promise because its likely its going to be full of like minded people.

The people are turned away from promise for a reason, it goes without question that the doorstaff will fuck up - the classic case was when boggely eyed my monkey turned up and he wasn't let in for being on pills (the poor bastard was born with frog eyes), but on the whole they do a good job otherwise we wouldn't all be sat here saying what a great club promise is.

If for some reason your refused entry from promise don't repeat the mistake.... Its a cunt when regulars like kid are refused entry but this happens in clubs up and down the country, all I can suggets is follow robs advice.

Which is exactly the door policy you got at Promise the last time Jules was on and the next 2-3 Fridays afterwards.
