My lass is requesting a present of epic proportions as I am going on holiday with the lads around the same time as she will be having a pretty heavy operation.

My problem is.. my mind has gone blank..

Normally I would buy shoes, perfume, make-up, clothes, jewlery, chocloates etc.. but these do not seem very appropriate.

I'm taking her for a meal on the eve of my departure.. but I need to either buy her something special when I'm there or when I get back.

I'm going to be in Milan for a while.. so do you think some genuine italian style footwear, clothing and jewlery could do the trick?

Any suggestions are welcome..

(Excpet the lads who hijack this thread telling me to buy her massive sex toys or some form of kinky stuff..)

The date of the op and the date of my holiday clashed completely by coinsidence.. it sucks

I'm liking the idea of taking her on holiday.. thinking ibiza in Sept perhaps.. !

get her a peice of unusual jewelrey too....but bring that home in case mr postman steals it

taking her away is good....don't tell her you're doing it just speak to her bosses at work & put her hols in & then tell her a week or 2 before hand

Forget the chocolates, cards, etc get her an engagement ring

good call however major comitment time not entirley bad but if its rushed into as a last resort to save face seen as though your being a bit of a twat by being away during this time anyway or at least thats what friends and family will be telling her ..... You need to do three things mate not just one !

1.Present before you go ... something like a lovey dovey charm or bracelet .

2. You call the hospital each day your away !!! making sure the flowers you sent have arrived either do this with a big bunch or my preferd option would be three smaller bunches acompanied by a card with either a poem or a heartfelt appology for you not being there .

3. Bring her something back from holiday .... not the normal run of the mill milan stuff i.e . boots, bags , leather garments ... Get her something that gives her a message , perhaps an authentic italian ornament that has a special meaning or an inscription on it , you need to show her that youve really thought about this ...

After all as stated somewhere else in this thread it is the thought that counts but its the amount of thought and effort combined with that little something different that lets her know how much she means to helps her forget that you wernt there by her side .... and basically gets you head for 6 months straight !

I think you should make something like a scrapbook full of loads of tickets, pictures and stuff that reminds you of her. Do a really long one and make it really nice and lovely such as laminating front cover etc. Do pages of funny stories youve done n stuff. I did one for Katies 18th birthday and she really loved it and she did something really personal to me which was the best present ever. That way it is something for her to read and cheer her up when she is lying in hospital. If she doesnt appreciate that give her a kick in the gut
