    The Techno thread

    Techno:-

    Love it? Hate it?

    Who/what is your fave DJ/tune/set/label?

Do you like Fergie/Picotto techno or Beyer/Mills/Rush/Pet duo/Clarke?

Now that Disco Noir has vanished should one of the bigger club nights around have techno on in the other room?

    Discuss.

I cant get to stuff like Ben Sims cos of it bein on a thursday :(

    Love it.

Underground Resistance. Favel label and producers. Speedy j fav dj after the glade also surgeon, Dj Hell, Adam Bayer

Not a fan of fergie(or any dj getting out hardhouse into what they think is techno with out giving props to those there before them.) think he is style biting others.

The hooked boys will be starting a monthly techno club soon so you should be able to go then matt.

    Like it/love it.

Dont really know much about it or pretend to.

Think Dave Clarkes the best DJ in the world but he's far from my favorite.

Valentino Kanzyani is a god imo  and has been for about 2 years his Essential mix in 2003 was class even tho it had a fair bit of tech trance in.

best set ive probably heard was either Dave Clarke or Phil Kieran at the NEC in 03, the bits of Green Velvets DJ set i heard were amazing aswell.

Kanzyani b2b Umek at Vicious was    and Liebing set was class!

And for the record i also like Fergie and Picotto as im not so narrow minded ;)

First set i remember getting and thinking fuck thats class was Christian Varela b2b Liebing

    Mint:D

I never seem to be able to make it to the one offs for one reason or another.

Speedy J is pure class, rarely plays over here and doubt he will ever play in Newcastle:(

I got a few Pet Duo sets the other day, mint but very hard.

I like some of Picotto's stuff but its not really proper Techno. Is'nt there a pidgeonhole for his stuff?

    Love it!

Adam Beyer, Michel De Hey & Richie Hawtin are my favourite techno djs. Have neevr failed to impress every time i've seen them.

I like pretty much all techno although the really hard stuff (DJ rush etc) isn't something i'd listen to unless I'm out.

Don't really like Picotto/Fegie at all as DJs.

Only other Techno jock I dont really like that is really popular is Chris Liebing, I think he's really overrated and find him really boring - plays good tunes but is nowhere near as good as most techno DJs I've seen. Saying that, some of his productions are really good.

Have seen Dave Clarke play some amazing sets, thought the surgeon was good at glastonbury too.

Dvae Angel has played the best techno set I've seen but have only seen him out twice and not heard much else from him over here in ages.

He is pretty hard and experimental. Thats why i love his stuff, his dj set are amazing.

He comes from a industrail background. I.e Throbbing Gristol, Can and loves hardcore bands like whitehouse, sun etc so that means his influences are not as obvious as other dj's.

Like james says, surgeon's stuff is really industrial, clanking techno, but still loads of funk thrown in.

You can download his last breezeblock set HERE

Site's down at the minute, but link works when the site is working

Matt - yes he's on by himself, didn't think the Newcastle massive were quite ready for regis's ramblings :D

    ....or Carl Cox,Luke Slater,Billy Nasty,Stacey Pullen,UR,or Claude Young!!!

Theres loads of class Techno DJ's around.

Ritchie Hawtin has always been a fave of mine, mainly his Plastikman stuff though.

No ones really said much about Jeff Mills either,i need to see him again live.

Hooked club will be going monthly weekends at the other rooms from aug 27th, will be bringing you lots of mint techno djs many of which wont have been seen in newcastle before:D

surgeon was mint at glastonbury, proper showed how ableton can be used. said to my lass after, we're gonna have to book him...

if regis tags along shall we let him on too?

seen mills a few times now, and i've thought he's been disappointing every time. wasn't much cop at sonar this year, never seen why people love him so much i'm afraid

caught fergie at sonar as he was on befrore magda, was prepared to laugh at him playing loads of loopy funky stuff but he was actually really good, played quite glitchy and kept it quite chilled which worked well before the m_nus lot came on, mixing was very impressive too. was surprised but i spose he may have been playing a bit different for the sonar crowd.

May as well let regis on if he turns up:lol:

Ive only seen Mills once, last year at disco noir and i did'nt think he was that good, but goin off sets and CD's ive got i know he is better than that. I love some of his productions too. He has been around quite awhile now so maybe some of the younger/newer DJ's are doing fresher things than him now?!?!?

Did you not read my post then?

Jeff Mills has always disappointed, have seen garnier play a wicked set down at the end in lonodon when he did all night- didn;t play a lot of techno but mixed up loads of styles- excellent!

Juan Atkins. He invented it afterall.
    Carl Craig.
    Rob Hood.
    Underground Resistance.

The thing to remember is that it doesn't have to be hard/fast.

There is so much utterly awful music that gets labeled as Techno at the moment.
