    The Press

Another arrest today and a release on bail for what was believed to be sex abuse claims, but does everyone think that the Press as a law should be allowed to publish things in there paper knowing that if this person is found not guilty then there life and there families lifes are totally ruined from the allegations ??

Personally i think its appaling and altho they haev to publish apologies it couldn totalyl destry someones life possibly leading to worse things - i know people will say this n that but its not on i dont reckon like. I know they have to make a living somehow and not all of them are bad people in the press but cummon FFS

To be honest there must be a rabbit off somewhere for the police to get to where they have recently with arrests of this and that and altho they have been hammered for apparently making a witch hunt of what there doing whens summit gonna be brought in ? I cant personally see the front page of any paper saying "Apolgies *persons name*" and a decent pay out too coz i think thats the last thing they could be doing as like ive said before it could spell the start of summit thats gonna make someones life hell :( :(

most apologies made by the press come in the form of ££ (compensation) and are never printed..... people lives can be ruined by senseless editors out to make sum money.

I agree with Geordie in his first post about 'what if the allegations werent true' - this sort of thing ruins celebrities and people can never look at them in the same way again - i think i heard on the news tonight he'd been released on bail but i'm not 100% on what's going on.

If it's not true then heaven help him - the papers make far-less a fuss over finding someone is not guilty, they just like nailing people hard on what they hear first. I can't see him doing that to little lads? But then no one's perfect and i'm not one to judge.

I take it this is matthew kelly then!

i was shocked when i heard it last night, i think its a load of shite!

I hate the tabloid press, leeching scavenging heartless bastards who print anything they hear, whether its true or not, just so someone might actually want to buy their shite newspaper. Arseholes the lot of them, especially the reporters! I mean who do they think they are for christs sake?!

There are many laws against this type of thing. For example, defamation and liable to name just two. The media wud not normally publish stuff unless they knew that there was some truth in it. They didn't tell us about the rumours about Beckham's affair a while back bcos they must have known it was too much of the risk. At times, the media do get it wrong tho and it is usually the editor that takes the flak when the shit hits the fan. Codes of conduct such as the PCC and BSC offer guidance on what reporters etc can and can not do. This is the best way to regulate in my opinion because any other way wud offer people a chance to hide all their home truths and offer the people with influence/power even more protection from the truth than they do now.

To be fair, all the media I've seen so far have all just reported that Matthew Kelly has been arrested on charges involving child porn. That is 100% true.

It's funny how the public in general praised the News of the World a few years ago for their name and shame campaign but then complain about privacy in other similar cases.
