The letter box effect when playing back a .avi

Do you just have to live with it? its annoying as fuck that you lose 30% of the your tv screen.

Can you do anything about it or is it just a after effect of converting the movie down?

so i cant do anything? diff dvds are coming out diff ratios some are ok some are terrible esp on smaller teles

can i change the format of OLD tv series that appear squashed in the middle (ie reverse of letterbox) they are coming out like a perfect square but still 30% of the screen is going to waste

not sure, other than re-encoding using something like TMPGenc, and cropping the screen size

You can adust it. I think it's next to the conversion settings button in DVD Fab. 'Crop Settings' or something.. it will let you choose.. and gives you an example of the sizes. Have a fiddle around with it.

I've never had any problems like this with DVD Fab.. although I do watch them on a square screen. They've never been too squashed or too stretched though.. cropping just cuts bits off, as opposed to squashing it all up afaik. I always leave mine at about 700x400.. although it depends on the resolution of the source video.

I'm in the middle of downsizing an avi atm so I can't check..
