    the Joy of Vista

Well another day, another sodding stupid thing found out about vista.

Boss was constantly getting system restore messages on boot.

    I disabled/re-enabled it..no joy
    ran a full restore..no joy

I then followed advice to run the built in non destructive system recovery, which takes about 15 mins and restores original versions of the critical system files, without affecting installed software or users files.

    Sounds easy in practice...

However, half way through the process I started getting permissions errors...folders could not be accessed in critical areas of the system

The result....one laptop that won't boot and don't have a Vista CD to hand.

Apparently it is hard coded so that even administrators cannot access certain files without taking ownership....i mean have you ever heard of anything so stupid??

Security gone mad....this supposed "non destructive recovery" has knackered the OS and there is no access to a recovery parition to try again.

    Vista

for the love of fuck!! what a pile of wank

certain EXEs complain about certificates, and refuse to install

how can i turn off this "feature"?

the .net framwork 1.1 wont install either, and i cant install the mouse drivers as it says "this requires windows XP"

tried to reinstall XP..."no hard disks detected, setup cannot continue"

    total bloody nightmare
