the happening cant wait for this on friday like, shalyman is a quality director and this looks like it could be his best. have you had any staff screenings yet scott
There won't be any staff screenings at Silverlink as our 2 copies of Hulk didn't come in til 8.30pm last night (Absolute piss take from Universal) so up in Projection we were fighting against the clock to get them both made up and viewed for today. Really want to see The Happening so going in tonight unpaid for a few hours to make up and view it. Can't wait to find out what is actually "happening". There was quite a harsh 15 rated trailer where some woman is with her mate in a park reading a book, then all of a sudden she pulls her long hair pin out her hair and.... does something harsh (won't spoil it as it might be in the film).
Aye that's what it looks like, but is it chemical/biological or is it supernatural or an act of God? Very very curious to find out what...
Anything that makes someone climb under what appears to be a very large, moving lawnmover and get completely nailed is compelling viewing in my book...... Reckon there will be a few toe curling moments in it......
Woah. What a massive disapointment this was. I'm a really big fan of all of Shyamalan's past work, but this film is a massive misfire. After a fairly promising start the film just falls dead flat. The only hook this film has in terms of keeping the audience engaged is the mystery of what the happening actually is, other than that there are no points of interest at all. The performances are, well average. Wahlberg is likable enough but brings no real weight to the role. Zooey Deschanel's character is weirdly written, moving from ditzy-yet-possibly-untrustworty to stong mother-type, but with no real conviction. And Leguizamo feels wasted. There is a complete lack of tension throughout the film, no sense of danger from what they are running away from, no sense of fear. Now, my main gripe is the issue of what "The Happening" actually is... ****SPOILERS START:**** Basically it is suggested early on that The Happening is possibly a defense mechanism of the plants and trees of our planet. A reaction against the biggest threat to their existence. Us, Human Beings. This is quickly ridiculed, and as a viewer I obviously thought it was Shyamalan throwing us a red herring. But as the film progresses it becomes more and more evident that the "plant theory" could be true. By the end of the film it is more or less confirmed that this was indeed caused by the plants, releasing some sort of neuro toxin that surpresses the self preservation instincts of Human Beings. So esentially the first theory Shyamalan suggests turns out to be the final answer. Which to me was hugely disappointing. ****SPOILERS END**** So really this film is a bit of a non-event event movie. By the time it explained itself I really didn't care anymore. After the first half an hour where everyone is commiting suicide, this is a weak, unsuspensful, frankly boring film. 5/10.
fuck, it got one star in the mirror today too, i was hoping it wasnt an accurate review cos ive been looking forward to this for a while since seeing the trailers on apple. bastard. im still going to see it.
ill still see it, the new hulk got canny pasted but i thought it was better than the last by a mile. shyamalan is canny hit and miss, signs i thought wa class as was the village up until the twist. ill do my usual trick of going in expecting turd and hoping to come out pleased
Don't let me put you off like Lads, it's still worth a watch just to find out what The Happening actually is. You might like it, it just didn't do it for me.
This is quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen !! Whalberg cannot act for toffee in this film!! The story line is shite to say the very least. They have tried to do the whole dawn of the dead thing but totally screwed it up, the dark humor doesn't work and there is no suspense !!
just got back, this was turd, worse than the sleuth remake, the acting was wooden as fuck and the polt had more holes than newcastles defense. the humour was shite, i only laughted when he was talking to the tree and that was still badly acted. avoid like st james park 2/10
well well well, you werent wrong !!! god this was shit, its really disappointing tho cos it had the potential to be really good, its only Shyamalan didnt make it. wahlberg was so one sided its almost like he was told to act that badly, i cant see how you can go from the departed to that...and that fucking zooey deschanel, jesus, she had one face the whole film through, like someone asked her to spell shyamalan and shes pretending she knows the answer. useless character, same goes for the little lass too... the comedy didnt work, the plot had massive holes in it, (how would the train driver know to suspend the service if he couldnt talk to anyone, why didnt wahlberg etc use the hilux they found to drive through the fields instead of walking, how come the toxin didnt effect animals, how come the five people in leguzamo's car got effected when the five people in wahlbergs car didnt ?...etc) some of the violence was cut too, we didnt see the lass at the start stab herself in the neck and we didnt see the lion bit, these were both on the red trailer.. this film, as lee said, was only better than sleuth because it had more that one location. best thing about this was the dark knight trailer at the start. i could go on but im not going to. 2/10, mainly cos i'd like to fuck zooey deschanel's face.
I thought Mark Wahlberg was funny in it. He wasn't meant to be funny but he just came across really gay. Aye, they were saying it didn't get people who werent in large groups yet it killed a few people in a car. and there was more than 5 of them walking across the fields later on.
