    The Dutch v The Itals

Holland looking good, could Italy be crashing out in the group stages??

Got a fiver on Holland to win 2-1 aswell hope Italy nick one back in the second half. Van Nistelrooy shouldve made it 3-0 although to be fair his first was a country mile offside.

France are totally past it I think too many older players wont be able to cope with playing three tough games in succession then even if they do progress will be fucked by the end. I think Russia could be the shock side with Hiddink managing and because their domestic season (that the majority of thier players play in) started just 3 months ago they will all be totally fresh unlike some players who have played about 50-60 games this season.

    He wasn't!!!!

"A player leaving the field of play because of his momentum during play, is not deemed to have left without the Referee's permission and can therefore re-enter without the Referee's permission. In this instance, although the defender is off the field of play, (and until he returns to the field of play), he should be deemed to be standing on the goal-line (in the field of play) when considering offside. The Assistant Referee should stand in line with the last opponent on the field of play (which in this case will probably be the defending goalkeeper). When deciding offside in this scenario, the two last defending opponents are the defender who has travelled off the field of play, and the defending player who is nearest to the goal line on the field of play (which in all probability will be the goalkeeper)."

Dirk Kuyt gets a look of stick but you can't go wrong with two assists. International football probably suits him better as he hasn't got much pace.

    Quality match.
As others have said the best of the tournament so far.
I thought Holland played ok but Italy were terrible, no organisation, bad formation, they almost looked scared to push forward at points.

Italy were always going to be vunerable without Cannavaro at the back. They don't look anywhere near as organised as they did at the World Cup. Credit has to go to Van Basten for the way he had Holland playing against their weaknesses perfectly.

i think ill stick with the actual laws of the game as opposed to pleat & co

the rules state that if a player leaves the field without permission he is still deemed active

hence why the goal was given
