This is what Mr J.Jules seems to think, after an interview in Metro Paper... What do others think? :D

Producing music certainly seems to be a quicker way in, because it gets your name around much more widely and quickly than having to play loads of smaller clubs to build your name up. I guess it also helps to have a deeper knowledge of tune structure etc which will come from actually producing music.

Trouble is you oft get familar with a name 'cos of production work (which they then get booked to dj on the back of)and then hear them dj and they're fooking pish. Then I spose there'll be even more people who can dj well and can't produce who're not getting the recognition they deserve because clubs are busy booking producers

Having said that good production and good djing can go hand in hand it's just that it's not always the case.

To get noticed with your tunes you need to be a damn fine producer first, alot of hard work involved! I agree that if you're a successful producer already, you're on the quickest route to being a DJ.

I think also knowing the right people is another quick route to DJ stardom.

to be fair, if you have an outstanding dj talent then you will get noticed - it's easy to spot a cut above the rest in terms of technical ability.

My mate who is a DnB DJ and producer was amazed when he was at promise and explain the like of tulip and kerry james got where they were without having to produce tunes aswell. Cos when he started producing tunes was a major part of signed to play, maybe that was more the case with DnB though
