    Tent advice!

I need to buy a two/three man tent for some summer camping trips.....

It seems up can but a tent for like £20 these days from anywhere?!

I want a fucking good one though NOT some polyester unwaterproof effort.

I know Rambler Rob, Camper Ken & the just plain CAMP SI know a little about the outdoor life !!!

Where to buy and any particular brands?

    Recommendations would be greatly received!

Pike, i could tell you everything there is to know about decent tents. If i dont know, its not worth buying, or knowing...

    http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/wildcountry/home.shtml

The Wild Country tents for most people are perfect, not too expensive, but of decent quality, made in the UK as well. The two/three man tents are around £250-300

Actually just checked their website, and they ve got a 3 person cosmetic second for £370. its a terra nova, which is the same company as the wild country's, just of higher spec.

    http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/terra/productcategory.asp?catid=1

The tent normally retails for £550, and is about as good as they get.

If you re after something a bit cheaper, then the Vango tents (Scottish company) are pretty sound, they do tents from the shitty £50/60 festival tents (using heavy and brittle fibreglass poles) through to pretty decent backpacking tents, of a decent quality (aluminum poles)

Give me a pm or email if you need more info

    Places to look in town:

Nevisport (be aware though, i used to work for them, and the staff are useless. They dont go out much, despite claims.

Tisos (Only one dodgy member of staff there (ex-nevisport) dont listen to him)

    LD Mountain Centre

    Wild Trak

In all honesty, i dont rate the staff much in any of those shops, heres a few on-line ones worth checking:

    www.fieldandtrek.com
    www.snowandrock.com
    www.ellis-brighams.com
    www.cotswolds-outdoors.com
and a handy one, which my bro bought his tent through:

    Pike, heres a few:

    http://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Products_29.html#ody3p
    http://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Products_29.html#road3
http://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Products_29.html#M2 This one is a weird design, as the poles are in the outside, sorta exo-skeleton. The system works really well, only bugger is you need a bit more space to pitch it. (There are times when space is limited outdoors!)

Best bet is to have a look, then give me a shout if you got more questions. Also its a good idea to see some of the tents up. Nevisport has recently got a "tent showroom" downstairs. I use the word showroom loosely, as I thought a) it was shit, and b) the customers have to risk rape/mugging/catching diseasing, walking round the back of teh shop to get into the showroom. Saying that they ve got a few tents on show.

Spud, £100 isnt a problem, so long as you re not going to have pissed mate falling into them!

    http://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Products_22.html#Taurus
    http://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Products_22.html#M200

Are both nice tents, but they re not designed for abuse. Wind, rain, yes, pissed people, no!

Give me a shout if you need any help dude!

I like the look/spec of the Roadrunner 33

Is the Groundsheet Protector a definite requirement?

That terra nova slight second is a better colour and shape but a little pricey...... iv mailed them for price verification as the desc says 315 but the price is 370...

The Road Runner is nice. The groundsheet protector will prolong the life of the tent, only thing is its extra weight, so pends if weight is an issue.

Worth getting if you ll be using it on rocky or stoney ground though!
