    Tecky geeks help needed

    Alright fellas,

Me PC wont switch on. Ive tried taking the kettle lead out of the back then back in. When i do this it kind of starts for a second but never fully loads.

I reckon it might be the power box (or whatever its called) where the kettle lead plugs into.

If it is can it be replaced or is me computer fooked???

So does the machine actually turn on or just for a few seconds..

It might be an intermittant PSU problem..

sounds like you power supply might have died

try swapping the kettle leads from the monitor and the base, to make sure its not just a dodgy power cable

you can replace your power box if it is that

if your power supply was fucked - it'd do nowt. how long does it start for? keep yuer finger on the power button for 10 seconds - see if owt happens.

or else - crack it open, re seat all connections - inc memory, IDE etc (unplug-replug) and blow all the dust from inside.

power box can be replaced easily aye.

if thats the prob. Sounds odd though if ya get power for a short while then dies... :spangled:

if the power source was buggered it wouldnt start full stop more likely to be motherboard...

does it bleep or anything before it shuts down again?

TBH if your gettin a small amount of power then cutting out, it could be a large amount of different things.

My advice is to try trial and error..

I've had a smiliar problem and it was my cpu, my mate had a problem exactly the same but it was his ram..

    Something could be shorting out..

Em, it only kinda starts for 1-2 secs after replacing the lead. Its has a power surge but not enough to turn it on.

Different leads do exactly the same.

Where can i get a power supply from??

Ive noticed that a lead from the power box goes to the mother board but it appears (might not be) that its 'fixed' on and wont pull out. is that gonna cause a problem replacing it?

    cheers for the advice btw

i get a pop kinda noise (not a bleep)from me speakers as i normaly would but dosnt go futher than a couple of secs, then if i try again it doesn't do any thing, untill i replace/replug the lead.

Ahh, just bought a new silent tower from the overclockers web site and it comes with a power supply....would've done other wise.

Is the higher the watt mean faster computer speed?? whats the advantage mate?

The more Watts you have the more devices you can operate in your machine..

    For example..

If you have 4 hard disks, a cd-rw and a dvd-rw, a Intel processor, a really powerful graphics card (say a 7800GTX), a sound card etc and u tried to run the machine on a 200 watt PSU then it'd probably either -

    Fail
    Blow up

In all probability it would be the former.
But if you hooked up a 500/600W PSU then it should fly like the wind.

In theory more power can also mean more speed as the devices have access to a readily available power supply.

    So.. erm.. yeah I suppose..

    ffs!!
Has anyone got a diagram for where im supposed to connect the wires to the mother board please??

most cables will only fit in 1 place.

IF you're talking about the cables for the LEDs, power switch, etc - They're all marked - AND your motherboard manual with tell you where to put them

    RTM!
