    technics sldz1200 vs pioneer 1000mk2

Over months of debating which to buy, I have finally made a decision.

    Denon DN-S5000
World’s First Motor Driven Active Platter for true vinyl emulation • Alpha Track (2 in 1) allows independent and simultaneous playback of another track from the same disc, mix tracks with one drive instead of 2. • Hot Disc lets you eject a disc during play and have it continue for another 35 seconds, you can also loop within the Hot Disc memory • 3-Way Scratch lets you apply scratch effects by selecting Main, Alpha or Sampler Track as the source • Mirror Mix lets you select the same track in Main and Alpha Track and play it after a specified time delay.

    • Clear Scratch Disk allows you create your own custom slip mat designs • 2 DN-S5000 units can be connected to a DN-X800 via the X-Effect ports and operated by the faders • 2 DN-S5000 units can view each other’s Memo data (when connected via the X-Effect In and Out ports) • Relay Play, Program Relay Play, Random Relay Play are possible when 2 DN-S5000 units are connected together. • Independent Digital Outputs (Coaxial, SPDIF) for Main and Alpha Track. With digital connection all effects can be output. • Dedicated Alpha Track Fader Start port. • Manual input of BPM values (*AUTO BPM and Manual TAP are also possible) • Switchable display of Main and Alpha Track times. • 100 mm long Slider for Playback Speed Control • 4 Hot Starts - a total of 4 Hot Start sounds can be played: Start Point A1, A2, A3, and A4 • 4 Seamless Loops can be made • A-B Splice removes unwanted sections of a track seamlessly (2 points per track) • A-B Trim/Move - The A & B points for the seamless loop, sampler loop, and splice points can easily be adjusted using the Scratch Disc. • 6 Stutter Cue Play Points • 2 Samplers (approx 15 sec. in 20Hz - 20 kHz, 16-bit, 44.1 kHz quality) • Recessed Connecting Terminals on the back panel to avoid damage • Memo Function - 5,000 Loops and Cue’s can be stored internally. This data can also be copied to another DN-S5000, and Memo from a DN-D9000 or DN-2600F can also be copied to a DN-S5000 • Instant Start (0.2 sec) • CD-R/RW Disc Playback • Program/Random Play - program up to 25 tracks on a CD for playback and the programs for up to 6 discs can be stored in memory, Random Play of CDs loaded in both drives is also possible. • Pitch Control; +/- 4%, 10%, 16%, 24%, 100% • Shock Proof Memory - Main 16 seconds, Alpha Track 16 seconds • X-EFFECT compatible with DENON’s DN-X800 mixer • FADER START compatible with DENON’s DN-X800, DN-X400 mixers

I was using one at the weekend and there awesome. totaly over shadowed by the pioneers imo. Why buy 2 cd decks when you can play 2 tracks off one deck through 2 seperate channels. With the platter actually spinnig it is actually like using turntables.

    hmmmm,i dont really like them.

the beauty of a pioneer is that there is no spinning platter, which makes the jog wheel so much more accurate than a turntable.

    Pioneer everytime for me.

But its goos that you actually tested them out first, as most people dont even bother.

aparently its not worth the extra couple of hundred to get the 1000's, on old threads people said the 800's played the same.
And does anyone know what the denon DN-S3000 are like and if they are close to the cdj800s for quality. I dont have the money to go splashing out on the flagship models you see but want something close :D
    cheers

The cdj800 does pretty much everything that the cdj1000 does and its a hell of a lot cheaper. I bought the 800 after much debate and I've had no regrets at all. I use the cdj1000's at Foundation and Beyond and honestly think for bedroom/mixing demo CD purposes the 800 is more than adaquate :)

    Some very good points there.

However, its like i have always said to my mates, if clubs had shitty belt drive decks for £100, thats what i would use at home. It just makes performing while your playing out not so tuff, at least ya know what everything does.

I used a djm 600 in a dj comp, which is what i have at home, butit still it didn't feel the same. The dj box was black, could not see shit, the last dj who was on before be had everything set differently, and i only had a 20 min set !!

Soemtime knowing yuor surroundings can be help. But if you are doing a normal set,a nd theres mot a judge on ya shoulder watching ya ever move....lol. The CD decks you hjave got will be fine for mixing, but looping tracks maybe different so if ya know you are using pioneer's ina club, try and lend ya mates for a day so you can get used to em :)

Think i'm over the second thoughts stage now. I think it will be tough going from using the denons to the pioneers (if it was to ever happen). As you's say, they all work nearly the same. But if i start getting into all the shit that the denons has got on them(samples/loops etc) i'll totaly struggle to do any thing similar on the pioneers.

Dont get the technics... ive been researching them a bit and they have some serious fundamental flaws that make them pretty ..... shit

You cant scratch on them for one... you get a load of wishy washy digital distortion if you try.

Overpriced guff... the Denons and the Pioneers are the king of the hill.

I'm well pleased with it. Just starting to get the hang of it, but i think its going to take some time to get to grips with the samples, loops, splices etc.

@mr revel. you can turn the platter off and use it as a jog dial.
Its unbelievable how you can strach on the fuckers. I still don't understand how it works. Especially When you can play 1 track and scratch over the top with another off the same cd. you can turn the reverse scatch off aswell, so you don't have to use the crossfader.

For any who's thinking of getting a cd deck. I would stongly advise you's to try one of these before rushing in and just buying a pioneer just cause its what all the night clubs use. Compared to the cdj800, i think if you can afford the extra your getting a hell of alot more for your cash. saves you having to buy 2 decks in the long run.
I spent months debating over this and it was a tuff call in the end. I think if i hadn't had the chance to try out the denon first i would of definately went for the pioneers as they seamed to be the most popular by dj's and clubs. But i probably would of just got an cdj800. whats the piont of paying an extra 200 quid for a couple of extra features.
I took a gamble on the denon's and it payed off. the alpha track is amazing.
I still don't under stand why they arn't used as much in uk clubs. There prefered more in the us and australia with dj's and clubs.

    Think i'll give them a 8 or a 9, may be 9 an a half 4 mixers time.
