You can alter with any art/photo package if you have one. Or if you're poor, you can use Windows Paint (presuming you use Windows). Open the picture in Paint, hit Ctrl+W, alter the percentages, then hit Ctrl+E to check the attributes. Get it less than 139x139 pixels or 20Kb, then bingo, new avatar!
