Whats the crack with this? my firewall keeps asking for permission for it to connect to something on the internet and when i goto task manager, there are 2 instances under 'SYSTEM', 2 under 'NETWORK SERVICE' and 1 under 'LOCAL SERVICE'

I've heard of viruses being named as svchost but avg reports my system as clean. Is there reason to be alarmed here?

One of the svchost's under 'SYSTEM' is using over 10mb of memory whilst it's partner is using less than 2mb if that's a clue of any kind.

    Cheers.

its a standard windows service, i forget what exactly it is but it should be there. i guess a virus could potentially take over it and fuck it up but if avg says ur clean i wouldnt worry too much

It all depends on the services you're running (go to Start, then Run, then type 'services.msc' and press enter.)

Most of them are explained in the 'Description' field, the ones that aren't can be googled. Usually it's a good idea to turn off ones you aren't using.

Be careful just switching stuff off though, as some are system critical (it usually warns you in this case.)
