sunday trading was started by neil with support from kerry james , static and myself amongst others: then later on the likes of steve linney , james wilson and a host of others came in on board

for a good couple years it turned good - great numbers but what done for it really were 2 things: it ran too often - weekly on a sunday and also when stereo started running the sunday session stuff and people started getting fed up of the more boshtatsic stuff a lot of people drifted to stereo for more of a chill out session, couple that with a host of wannabee djs who tried to get on board a couple years in abnd who basically turned up for their sets and fucked off 5mins after finshing and I think in the end neil juts had enough of ploughing his money into it for very little return

I bumped into him a few weeks back on northumberland high street and had a good old chat with him, but the general impression I got was that he had had enough of running events.

i once toyed with the idea of tempting him back to run a sunday trading room at detox but I dont know if he would be up for it

I only ever went a couple of times but seemed good crack... always preferred it early on before the music got, as Melt says, 'boshtastic'.

Not that Stereo's effort made me wanna go there.

I remember the dj comp but don't remember who won.

I won the first of the first rounds... lost the 2nd round because of numerous clangers.

Sure if you search on here there will be plenty of info. I can't be arsed.

Now I think... I don't think anyone won.

Sorry to whoever if I'm wrong.

are you not thinking of the dj competition that promise ran at the egypt cottage on a friday night off the back of the clientele that attended sunday trading

dont ever remember sunday trading runing a dj comp

for that comp i think burnsy, che, lee wilson and earl grey got to the semis

but there was major allegations of vote rigging and nepatism

    awaits backlash

The Promise one was at Foundation mate. I was in the final with Richie etc.
The one at Egypt Cottage was ran by Sunday Trading & Neil for sure. It was also on a Sunday.

the initial heats of the Promise competition was at EC, then the semis in the back room of Foundation.

I've also heard stuff about rigging though, and heard certain reasons why the judges didn't put people through.

ST did also have a competition... I'm not sure if there was any winner or structured heats. It was more to get people in and to see how many mates you brought with you more than owt else. I couldn't enter as I was already playing regularly at ST at that point.

For a period though. ST was good banter!

Aye... it was definitely a Sunday Trading one. I remember following the Burns through the other one.

Think I only ever went to couple of Sunday Trading's when I wasn't in the competition.

First was to see Paul Lancaster play as I saw him with Fire Recordings (Cass, Slide & Burridge's label) after his name and wanted to know what the crack was.

Other one I don't remember who was on or who I was with or anything but definitely went at least once more.

    Neil was/is sound.

I liked the early Sunday Tradings that were at the bar/cafe at the bottom of Westgate Rd.

When it moved to Egypt Cottage it became one of the many harder music nights that was based there. The DJ comp was on mega early & people would turn up with there mates, they would DJ, there mates would vote & then fuck off.
